I almost accidently burned down my apartment complex last night.

Well at least you didn't over load a circuit breaker or anything with a bunch of space heaters. Somewhat big local story recently about that. Family lost their home in Katrina and moved to the tristate. Well a few weeks ago we had lots of rain and flooding. The family's furnace gave out because of a flooded basement. Well the mother (only parent IIRC) bought a bunch of space heaters and overloaded the circuit. At first I thought she had been a careless smoker because I saw news footage of her showing the house with a lit cigarette in her hand. Nope, but still an idiot for overloading a circuit breaker with a bunch of space heaters.

Sometimes I wish this site had a ban on discussion about smoking, like religion and politics and that - the number of times a random post that just happens to mention smoking leads to a few gullible twerps thinking that the world cares about their 'bad mm'kay' opinion on smoking, drinking and the like.

And accusing people of drink-driving is a very shitty thing to do.

I don't like to generalise, and I don't know anyone here personally of course, but IN MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (caps to point out emphasis to whingers) the people who I have met that don't drink, don't smoke and have never taken drugs are the most boring bunch of holier-than-though moral hypocrites in existence.

Errrr, rant over. I'm glad the apartments survived and hopefully the bush will make a full recovery!

QFT on every single point made.

As a near ex-smoker (I still have a few on Friday or Saturday if partying), I find the anti-smoking sentiments and commercials even more annoying now that I do it far less. Maybe it's because I'm trying NOT to smoke and I always have to listen to it? Those idiot TRUTH commercials and the like make me want to light up more than anything, shut up and let me not think about it thanks!

I really don't believe that those stupid commercials have convinced anybody to quit.

What this sounds like to me is a force-of-habit thing Kick's been doing all winter, pitch the cig into the snowbank and it's out in a second. Whoops! Snow melted! Shit, get me some water!

    So I blame spring.

And the hippy has a point. I'm far more boring now that I quit drinking. At least I am told that by my alky friends who always seem a little skittish around me now, like I'm going to fire off a sermon around them. I don't. Fuck it, it's their livers and their wallet. I'm all about choice.

Not having a hangover in 15 months FTW.

    Yah, same here.

I'm down to three or four cigarettes a week, with no cravings or anything, and the only reason I have one is to be sociable with my smoker friends or neighbor, but every time I see or hear a TRUTH commercial, it makes me want to buy a pack of smokes and go to town on it Denis Leary style.

Thankfully, I know not of these commercials, being british and having no TV. They sound crappy.

I'd like to see THAT on the side of a bus. It would probably work better.

You would not believe how many times this has been said, and then later when the author of the comment is on their death bed, they regretted saying it. I've met 3 myself. When/if you end up with lung cancer, I'd like to see if you'll still be singing that tune. I've yet to meet anyone that has so far.

I say when/if because according to the other poster, you are probably gonna die in a car accident. Not seeing the connection myself. If I were gonna address the drinking, I'd have gone the more inevitable route of liver or kidney failure.

Liver failure, and oxygen deprivation (from lung cancer) are two of the worst ways to die. Up until the end, with liver failure, the pain is almost inescapable and even some of the most powerful drugs don't touch. All they can do is hope you're healthy enough for a transplant, or keep you as comfortable (i.e. drugged and sedated) for as long as possible.

With oxygen deprivation, you're brain starts malfunctioning and a lot of your higher functions could be impacted. It is a terrible way to die.

cigs after Taco Bell are nice

Me and a friend accidentally started a small forest fire once behind krogers, when we were kids. Damn cigarrettes.
It was'nt them tho, it was from lighting weeds on fire with our new zippos. They really were windproof.

Call me insane, but I'd rather die in a terrible way than live in a boring way. Seems in this day and age everything's bad for you:

Read all the health reports out there and you'd be hard pressed to find ANYTHING that isn't supposed to be bad for you.

So what's the best thing to do, try and avoid it all and live in fear of disease and accidents?

Nah, just say FUCK IT and get on with having a fun life.
