Okay, so what do you want me to call the figures associated with these titles? After all, this is what you guy's have taught me in my past two years of collecting. I never knew any of these terms till I came here.

That said, I like most of the figures from all three classes. But to be honest, the only one true term that annoys me is Not-Name. We fan's know what it is by character so who cares which company made it? Ironhide is Ironhide. And it doesn't matter to me if it's made by Hasbro, Joe-Blow, or Steve-Bob Billy.
Saying Not-Ironhide applies to me that it's some other character. Am I right?

    Anyway, that's all folks.

I don't collect WSTs or CHUG so I can't pile on those "labels", but I am guilty of "not___" or "un___" sometimes. I think these terms are more for identifying (or "not" identifying  ) 3rd party "figures" and not really detrimental to identifying the "characters" themselves.

I have FP Explorer (NOT-Blastoff) and FP Munitioner (UN-Swindle), and for the most part, when talking toys/figures/molds etc., I do identify them as just that, FP Explorer and Munitioner. But when speaking of the characters themselves, there is no doubt they are Swindle and Blastoff of Combaticon fame.

Well it DOES help to tell who you're talking about

    G1 Ironhide
    BW Ironhide
    Energon Ironhide
    CHUG(SKKEEMENEUDISO) Ironhide {In Fairness it IS hard to remember which particular subline one guy vs another came out in}
    TF1 Ironhide
    ROTF Ironhide
    DOTM Ironhide
    CV Ironhide

No as far as the Not-Game goes

Currently we have just 1 "Not Ironhide" out there. So it may be that it's easier for folks to call him Not-Irnhide than to remember that it's Igear-Ironhide or PP-Ironhide, or whatever (Same as remember whether he's Classics or Universe, or whatever), it's a catch all.

The trend seems to be (funnily enough) that once you've got 2 or more "Nots" out there people start using whatever damned fool name is on the box "Giant" and "Hercules" are used pretty regularly, as are the individual Herc guys' names.

Sometime people even go for the "real" name just 'cause it rolls off the tongue "Warbot Defender" and "Protector" get chatted up in toy threads much more than "Not Springer" or "Not Rodimus"

So there are a lot of factors, and sometimes the Not-s and Chug-s are just helpful.

I think they are kinda silly too though :thumb

Well, let me put it this way. In the RC helicopter world, we've got a lot of clones and knock-offs as well. But we don't call them Not-Align Trex, or Not-Eflite Blade MSR. We call them by what the company calls them and identify the companies name as well.

Probably the difference is these aren't just robot-models, these are CHARACTERS, so until a good name catches on ("Munitioner" 'Warbot Defender"), which they often do, it's easiest just to say Not(i.e. identifying them as 3rd party product)-CharacterName.

It's probably a key-stroke thing too, it takes a lot less time to bang out Not-Ironhide than it does to type Igear-Ironhide or PP05-WeaponsSpecialist

People are lazy and stupid, it's the first law of nature ;)

But you cna NOT-Call them whatever you want :lol

Couldn't you have just commented in the other thread about this? I don't think another thread about this was necessary.

I feel the same as you and agree with everything, except, if Steve-Bob Billy ends up making an Ironhide, I will call it Not-Ironhide.

Those descriptors evolved out of a need to quickly convey information among fans. If someone uses one everyone immediately knows what they're talking about. What more can you ask of language? The idea that something is wrong with terms everyone understands is ludicrous, but good luck trying to get new terms in use.

Language is organic and evolving, and the only invalid construction is the one that fails to convey the correct meaning! :thumb

I wasn't sure what thread to put this with as there seems to be a lot of threads relating to the same topic. I've seen a lot of people complaining about these terms being used and personally I don't care what term is used to identify which group of toy's we're talking about.

WST-Worlds Smallest Transformers fit's any tiny-Transformer no matter who made it.
CHUG-helps identify the series, classics, Henkie, universe and generations. What else would you call it? Classics isn't necessarily Henkei is it?

Not is the only one that doesn't fit. Anyway, to each his own, call it whatever you want to. But why complain when the term is used? If you don't like it, just don't use it. But at least you know what the other person is talking about.

I collect bit's from each group and I'll use these terms simply because it's what I've learned from these boards.

Wait..what..didn't you start this thread in order to complain that you didn't like the terms and weren't going to use them??

"Okay, so what do you want me to call the figures associated with these titles?"

Not exactly. I just wanted to know what was the preferred terminology.

:lol  You made your own counter argument entirely too well I guess!

It's the internet, its a silly fandom, there IS no preferred standard, it's the ice cream flavor of the week, and all you can do is try to make yourself understood and eye-roll at anyone who complains about how you do it ;)

You can call them what you want. Of course nothing random which doesn't make any sense.

On a interesting note, you are not the official product by HasTak, so I have to call you Not-Tigertrack from now on. Funny world...
