Back in the day we had headmasters, targetmasters, combiners, pullbacks etc.

Today we had a failed PCC line. Is there any more room for new gimmicks that may work? What are some gimmicks you would like to see that haven't been done before?

Kits that would allow you to build and customize your own Transformer, ala Bionicle.

I was thinking it would be neat to have a designer toy aspect. Come out with a generic robot/car white blank to be painted and customized along with a jet version and even a Prime version (I would go gangbusters on the trailer).

Transformers that turn into weapons platforms, and universal connectors to daisy-chain them together. It'd allow for troop building/playset building by both casual and serious collectors. It's sufficiently generic that the loose combiner problem doesn't come up (apparently having to find all 5 combiners in the wild is problematic from a retail standpoint), and any size class could participate. I know the Cyberverse vehicles do this, but it would be fun at a larger scale, too

I like the customisnig idea but that's probably moving away from a classic Transformer toy and more into art kit territory.

As for gimmicks that transforming action figures could have, I have always wanted targetmasters to come back and love Generations Cyclonus for this reason.

I'd argue that PCCs flopped more because of execution than intention.

How about some new triple-changers? Or some that have an Autobot mode and a Decepticon mode (such as Doubledealer)?

Or TFs that had a bona fide alt mode and non-human robot modes (think: Alternators Ravage, G1 Sky Linx, ROTF Rampage)? A whole subline tied in with a limited fiction. It would even allow for a few BW characters to get a chance to shine again.

I'd like to see a line with altmodes able to be customized. Cars with a whole bunch of mix-and-match rims, hood scoops, spoilers, etc.

    Also, Cyberverse TFing Build-a-figs.

Simply have their eyes light up with micro led technology either by a remote control, shock, sound or movement sensor. Look at your collection and imagine all of them staring at you with flickering, glowing eyes.

Worst gimmick is always the soundchip.. loose them Hasbro.

These two ideas, plus a weapons pack for TFs, would be awesome.

While that does sound cool, it could also be very creepy. Imagine walking into your room at night, ready to go to bed, and then suddenly your startled by your TF's glowing and staring at you, with their soulless eyes.

    1) Transforming
    2) Licensed alt-modes
    3) Triple changing
    4) City bots and play sets
    5) Heroscape type gameboard/figure interaction (or like the new Lego games)
    6) Technology to change the colours and patterns on the figure panels
    7) A design philosophy for the customizer: Swappable heads, hands etc.
    8) No electronics, sounds or big internal bits - batteries not required
    9) I like the idea of Micromasters, as applied to electronics, kitchen and lab equipment
    10) Better paint, rubber tires.

Glow in the dark paint and/or parts. I don't think it's been done before on TF, or if it has then not enough to have been made proper use off. The Energon line could've had loads of glowy energon power parts and paint apps to back up the line concept.

You can call them soulless but THEY HAVE SPARKS :cry  Also, they would have an off switch.

    Yes!

Or have the larger figures with big blacklight guns and all the figures have invisible/blacklight "damage" that can be seen when the gun/light shines on them. This blacklight idea super super doubtful and probably not that fun.

Blacklight idea is cool but I'm guessing it would show up a lot more than just battle damage.

But hide-away battle damage parts might be cool. Like those rolling chest things the old He-Man figures used to have.

I reckon combiners would sell well today, gives ppl an incentive to buy more figures too.

God, this. I still love Glow-in-the-dark. Just bought a set of glowing Smallest Seekers.

The only official TFs I know of with glow-in-the-dark are the Iron Man ones.

Yes, to rolling battle damage. I had some Hot Wheels that did that back in the day.

Also, didn't Cannonball have glow-in-the-dark paint apps? Just for that pirate voodoo feel?

How about a hand-held wind-up thing that you then plug onto the back of an alt-mode TF to set its wheels spinning and then release it to zoom off? I've explained that really badly. :p
The wind-up 'charger' would maybe be sold with a larger figure but all the figures, small class too, would be able to plug to it and get their wheels charged. Then kids could race their TF. Battlechargers! Perhaps it also charges battle actions and fires weapons. Maybe make the charger an actual transforming figure so it's not just some random chunk of plastic. He could be the Powermaster.

If they made a Classics Starscream in predominantly glow-in-the-dark off-white, I'd buy at a high price.
