Hypothetical question, if the economy goes south, will you get rid of your TF's?

I'll be looking for outstanding deals on the grail items on my want list. And scaling back on new items at mass retail if I have to. Which is fine, I'm becoming less interested in stuff in the movie style.

    disagree on all 3 points

    1. i have no worries on debts and have plenty of money for emergencies, store credit works for me cause i now don't have to take any money out of bank account to pay off my credit card.
    2. yes if they go under i'm out of pocket, however with the amount of stock they are shipping in and out at present i can't see them going any time soon.
    3. i paid about 20% of the actual retail value for them originally, so even on trade i havn't lost anything.

Sell them, nah. I sold a few a while back but those were ones I had either never opened or ones I opened to display but never transformed. I need to stop being a completist, sadly though with classics2, Animated and the next movie coming, I'm screwed. Wife is supportive of it, as long as I pull some overtime I'm good.

Nope, I will be looting stores and buying them off those that do sell their collections.

if u sell them chances are people won't be buying them for very much so i guess it'd be better for the collector's with cash cuz they can buy cheap and maybe later sell high

Firstly, what is with people overreacting to this whole thing within the last few weeks? Yeah it's bad, but it is NOT Great Depression bad, not even close. If you seriously think it is, then you have no idea how bad the Great Depression was. We'll be out of this within 1-2 years, most economists are predicting, perhaps even earlier. If you're going to worry about this, worry about how socialistic our government has become, not how much this will impact the economy.

In direct answer to your question, though, it depends on how "south" is "south". If you're talking about a recession, or even a depression, no way. I'm entering a job field that is just insanely in demand right now, where there aren't enough applicants to fill the required number of positions, and that will only get worse as baby boomers retire. My financial situation right now is better than it's ever been, and it looks to only get better when I complete graduate school. (A dude from Telecommunications Systems Management with a 3.8 GPA? People WANT me, badly. Not trying to brag, just to tell you how it is with my financial situation; it's recession-proof.)

If you're talking "end of the world, it's every man for himself" bad, which is honestly how bad it'll have to get to really affect me, well, then... I don't think the TF market will be particularly vibrant then anyways.

Hey, hasnt anyone noticed that even with our economies going down the shitter, its a cycle. It happens all the time and with time, it does go back to the way it was before or in most cases, better than it was before. I think all the actions the govt's around the world are taking, will eventually help the economies pickup and everything will go back to normal for the most part. I live in the US and the bailout plan they did I dont necessarily agree with, but with time, does have a chance to get people to start investing again, and get the housing market going again as well.

Lets just hope relief of the eonomies happens quick. Iceland is struggling over there but hopefully they pull through as well!

    Peace

Nobody on this board has any real idea how the great depression was. Other than that I agree. I think it will sink but not to the point where we need to freak out.

Well, yeah, in terms of first-hand experience. I was talking more about the statistical side of things.

Trouble is, unless most of your collection is MISB, really collectible stuff, odds are you won't get much for it anyway. For me personally, I have other things I'd rather sell if it comes down to it. Once all that's gone, I'd maybe consider selling TFs, a few at a time - but I know I wouldn't get anywhere near what I'd think they were worth. And that'd just depress me more...
