I grew up with Energon and Cybertron, so name reuse generally doesn't bother me either. I don't consider most characters between G2 and 2007 to even be related to their namesakes.

I hold the movies to a different standard because I expect the franchise I love to be handled with a similar love for its big-screen debut. Marvel has gotten it right for the most part.

Cybertronain-esque building that acts as the Autobot's headquarters on earth would work rather nicely.

Why not? they already dropped a planet into our orbit, how does that mean that they couldn't get a Metroplex from a building they use as a base?

It worked in the animated movie - along with Devastator working in ROTF.

It can work - it just needs to be scripted right.

I think it couldn't be a CITY that would be too much, but a base of operations with defenses etc, more like a large building or complex.

To handle the one-sided-ness you would have to work into the plot that the Decepticons take control of it and then use Metroplex to run amok destroying things and attacking the Autobots. Then the Autobots wouldn't have to defeat Metroplex, just stop him being controlled by the Decepticons.

    Simple

Make him into a massive Cybertronian version of the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier:

That way the Autobots (and N.E.S.T.) have a mobile city/base that can deploy anywhere on Earth and like the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier, he can cloak to avoid being seen from anybody, especially the Decepticons! :thumb

Of course, this could also work for a live action Grandus! :inquisiti

Considering how easy it was for Devastator, and the Driller to get killed.
Metroplex would probably be killed off via hand grenade.
    Or maybe a paper airplane.

I feel this would work better for a rebooted version of the Nemesis... just add a bunch of spikes.

There's nothing stopping a real life style Metroplex other than getting a script that convinces us that something like that could be possible in the Transformers universe.

For example, as you showed us. The Avengers managed to draw us in enough that when we saw the S.H.I.E.L.D. hellicarrier we didnt question it, we just accepted it and thought 'OMG i'm so glad they kept it looking something similar to the comics and that they gave us a look at what we wanted to see on screen!'

Well, it'd cost ILM a hell of a lot :lol

But me personally, I'd like to see Metroplex as a mobile base, possibly flight-capable or amphibious, a gigantic APC/tank-type of vehicle, and he deploys the smaller Autobots via ground-bridges to wherever they're needed. That'd be neat.

Gimme a huge city that can armour up and pop out lots of guns if attacked, like Autobot City did in the 1986 movie. And then if things really turn to shit, at the core of that city would be a large hub building that turns into Metroplex. He'd still be big, skyscraper size maybe, but he wouldn't be an entire city with all the problems that would bring. For one Optimus Prime's goldfish would get tipped out of their tank if the quarters they were in got transformed into a robot. And if Optimus' goldfish get hurt he's gonna rage and take the nearest poor mofo's face.

I think it would still be spectacular in a live-action movie setting - a huge metal city changing from open bright areas and cool futuristic buildings to a closed-up armoured battle base bristling with weaponry. And at the centre of it all a respectably giant robot that can come out and kick ultimate ass if the situation requires it. Maybe he's also able to pick up weapons from the city and use them too.

Nope. He was named Devastator in the movie. It was Hasbro that renamed him Brawl for his toys, because even they knew how stupid that name choice was.

I figured he'd have the personality and sound like Knockout or Sunstreaker.

Or he'd be like the 60s Addams Family show's Thing, a giant hand comes out of a building because he's underground. The hand does some stuff, then disappears. Maybe a voice can be heard when the hand appears.

Or to get Coke as a new big sponsor, he'd make him a vending machine, a repaint of the Mountain Dew-bot.

Or....some human walks on some glass "floor", it cracks, and then a booming voice goes: "My eyes!!! My eyes!!!"
