What sort of reception do you predict for DOTM?

Big box office, weak with the critics? Or will it reverse the trend, and flop despite good reviews? Maybe it will build on the momentum and goodwill of the previous 2 movies and surpass both of them. What is your gut feeling at this stage? Do you find the hype convincing?

To put things in perspective, here's how a variety of comparable blockbuster-type movies have performed in different categories:

Opening weekend gives you an idea of how highly anticipated a movie was, total gross shows the overall financial impact of the movie. Rotten Tomatoes gives an idea of how positive or negative the reviews were on the whole, and to balance that somewhat, IMDb shows how their users rated it (presumably more average cinema-goers).

    Transformers 1 (2007):

    Rotten Tomatoes Tomatometer: 57% fresh
    IMDb: 7.2 /10
    Domestic Opening Weekend: $70.5 million
    Total Worldwide Gross: $709.7 million

    TF2: ROTF (2009)

    Tomatometer: 20%
    IMDb: 5.9
    Weekend: $108.9 million
    Worldwide: $836.3 million

    Iron Man(2008):

    Tomatometer: 94%
    IMDb: 7.9
    Weekend: $98.6m
    Worldwide: $585.2m

    The Dark Knight(2008)

    Tomatometer: 94%
    IMDb: 8.9
    Weekend: $158.4 m
    Worldwide: $1,001.9 M

    Avatar (2009)

    Tomatometer: 83%
    IMDb: 8.2
    Weekend: $77 m
    Worldwide: $2,782.3 m

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1(2010)

    Tomatometer: 79%
    IMDb: 7.7
    Weekend: $125m
    Worldwide: $954.5m

    Twilight: Eclipse (2010)

    Tomatometer: 50%
    IMDb: 4.8
    Weekend: $64.8m
    Worldwide: $698.4m

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011)

    Tomatometer: 33%
    IMDb: 6.9
    Weekend: $90.2m
    Worldwide: $913.6m

    Thor (2011)

    Tomatometer: 77%
    IMDb: 7.5
    Weekend: $65.7 m
    Worldwide: $433.7m

So, if you were to put money on it, ... or just guess for the heck of it, how do you expect TF3 will fare in those same categories?

A lot of this year's movies I could compare it with are still on release, so the numbers haven't quite settled yet. I remember ROTF took a while before the ratings started to sink and the really bad reviews started to come in, and obviously movies that are still in theatres haven't produced their total gross yet. Figures taken from The Internet Movie Database, Rotten Tomatoes, and Box Office Mojo .

I'm guessing 60-65% of the Tomatometer and 110 million dollar opening. I think even if this is a really good movie, some critics like to pile on Bay just because it's him.

From what I've heard, it will have quite a monstrous Box Office [is on 3D, remember that].

On the reviews, it seems it will be getting like TF1 reviews or better: Every review about the movie until now has been positive.

MEGAN FOX ISN'T IN THE MOVIE! It will be a DISASTER! Nobody will see it! It will flop at the box office! OH THE HORROR!

Seriosly thought i think it wil lgo about 60% Tomato, and 7 IMDB and it'll earn a little more than ROTF.

What I think will hurt it is the moms who aren't gonna take their kids to potentially see more cussing robots saying "pop a cap in his ass" or "pussy", or see John Turturro's ass in a thong.

I am going with 60-70 %. Because people say it is the best of the series. And 100-120 million opening.

And the critics well, some are going to hate it just because it is Michael bay and no Megan fox. Then yougot the nitpickers who literally destroy every scene bay has shot. Oh and don't forget every telling us how stupid we are for liking the film.

I'm gonna say between 40 and 50% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 130/140m opening and worldwide overall I reckon it'll not be far off the billion...

By all accounts, the 3D in this movie is going to blow people away, so you've got the appeal of the franchise + "Avatar"-esque visuals... It should make a killing at the box office. If the plot is better than TF1 and TF2, then it should easily be the highest grossing film in the trilogy.

$75 million opening (parents will rather spend money on Cars 2 and Harry Potter) and 15-25% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I think worldwide, there's a very good chance it'll break a billion this time. And I expect they could break somewhere over 100 million on the opening. I think this might be the one movie people go out of their way to see in 3D this year. It's probably the visual eye-candy movie of the year, where some of the other 3D releases have been pretty mundane fare. Should be a thrill-ride.

Critically, I'm expecting maybe around 40 - 55% on the tomatometer, 6.5 - 7 on IMDB. The buzz seems to be good, but at the same time some of the ingredients seem a bit questionable to me. The wreckers could be like the twins all over again.

I'm gonna say it'll be something like this:

    Tomato: 52%
    IMDb: 6.8
    Weekend: $102 m
    Worldwide: $1250 m

But let's face it, I'm probably miles off.

    I'm guessing 75%

Weekend: $135m (due to the fact it's being release in IMAX 3D, Standard 3D, and 2D).
    Worldwide: $950m.

what critics care about Megan Fox? The trololololol doesn't count! I don't care about critics, tomatometers or anything I just want people to go out and see the film. Before someone tries to mince my words, I do care about the final product but as long as people are seeing and supporting it, the rest doesn't matter!

I mean if Avatar could do over a billion with a paper thin plot that was stolen from a couple of places just because of the visuals, surely the epic 3D in DOTM will mean it can do the same

Except that it's going to be widely thought of as "the sequel to the worst movie of the past 10 years." Why would people want to see the sequel to a movie even more reviled than Catwoman?

ROTF is miles and I mean MILESSSSSS away from being the worst movie of the last 10 years... And even though it was apparently sooooo terrible, it still managed to do 830m worldwide without 3D

OMG it got worse than Catwoman? Now that's bad...

I wonder if ROTF is widely viewed as being worse than Sharktopus or Giant Shark Vs Giant Crocodile or whatever it's called.
