Bumblebee wasn't the '77 Camaro when he was getting towed, but he was hooked onto his back somewhere. It's not easy to tell where specifically.

Longarm isn't a magic towtruck or anything... The hook is lacking in some departments, but both BBs (as far as I know) can easily be towed by placing the front of them onto Longarm's hook.

77 BB can be towed from the front that covers the head, but it relies on the weight pulling it down to be "hooked" since there's nothing to hook onto

Why do toy tow trucks never have realistic tow rigs on them? It's been several decades, since they stopped using the hooks for actual towing. These days, if a tow truck has a hook, it's just to pull things out of a ditch.

Because how often does the target audience (kids) actually care what the towing rig looks like? A hook is more fun than a realistic towing rig, and easier to engineer into a toy.

The hook is more recognizable, in my opinion.
