I removed some old rusty screws, and have some nice clean screws to put in their place. There is still some rust residue on the plastic. Does anyone know a good (safe) way to remove the rust residue before I put the new screws in?

I've read that white vinegar works on plastic, but has anyone actually tried this on Transformers? I don't want to damage the plastic.

I use naval jelly. Its for metal but I've used it on the plastic that was rusted around the screw. I've soaked screws 10 to 15 minutes and the plastic less than 5 to be safe. Its worked perfect, no bad side effects. I scrub both with towel and tooth brush just before and after I wash off the jelly.

    something like this
