been done before we used it to fake out the Germans in world war II, these are undoubtly far superior to the ones made back then but the serve the same purpose to fool those you don't want knowing your true military strength.

Oh come on, that is an old and tested tactic.

These inflatable dummies with heat and EM generators are excellent decoys.

Remember "all those tanks and armored vehicles" NATO forces destroyed in 1999 during bombing of Yugoslavia? They claimed they destroyed about 80% of armored assets. What a joke.

As for the article, it's BBC. They have a habit of writing such dumb articles when ruskies are in question. Why should Russians blow their own decoys? These are meant for the enemy to fire upon, deplete weapons and reveal their positions.

Yeah, they did this back in World War 2 as well. There was some craaaaazy shit done in WW2 to hide and decoy American production. Anyone ever heard of the town that was built on top of of a Lockheed plant?

Yeah, that Lockheed plant was crazy. Rolling hills and fake animals that they'd move around in case of multiple overflights.

Yea, I remember reading about this before. A good tactic, if the enemy is far away enough to not see that they're fake. Except these look more real then the ones in the article I read, though they still serve the same purpose.

    Intrigued...

Heh. Yes, as others have stated, this was used before, it's just more sophisticated nowadays. If it works, why not use it? If they fool radar, infrared, flyovers, and satellites, then they're worth the (rather low) expense.

Tanks will get plenty of use in the next power versus power war. Sure right now the current conflicts are rather one sided as far as technology, but if a world power decided to pick a fight somewhere they would be used on the battlefield.

    Whatever works for 'em lol.

:lol  Somebody better let all those Bradley, M1Abrams and other mechanics of tanks and armored personnel carriers for the U.S. Army know that they are out of a job! I'm pretty sure my friend who has been in for nearly 8 years would be surprised tomorrow when he heads back to Afghanistan to find that he has no job being a mechanic for the Bradley.

Really though... what? Since when have tanks been rendered antiques and that no one uses them? I'm pretty sure the United States military, for one, disagrees with that statement, as well as other nations that never stopped using tanks.

You know that our DnD though the same way. When our Leopards reached the end of their operational life they were going to replace them with LAV III's. Then came Afghanistan, and the huge advantage the Leopards gave our troops there. So much so that the Leopard I's are being upgraded and we've done a deal to buy Leopard 2's to replace them in due course.
