I'm just curious, but what do you consider to be a "Vintage" Transformer? What's the benchmark?

For example, would you consider the Unicron Trilogy to be vintage? Or just G1 and G2?

The benchmark I believe is the 1980s, the decade when Transformers made its debut.

I thought so, but then I saw on TFsource they have Armada listed under vintage. So I figured there was a difference in the fandom, and a more casual interpretation.

I suspect it's relative to the subject in matters of this nature. In truth, a number of the G1 stuff is still just shy of the 30 year mark... but for the collecting community...

I think that the 20 and 25 year marks is also acceptable for certain items.

    Same as classic...

I was listening to a classic rock station in 2004...Nirvana was considered classic rock...My eyes bugged out because I was then old...now I am vintage

Anyway it's a word more associated with a solid definition to wine and denotes a year passed. In material things vintage can be last year or 100 years ago.

Antique is what g1 is on the cusp of and more appropriate a term for old toys.

I suppose if there's another later version of it then the original version would be considered 'vintage'. So you could have 'vintage Beast Wars figures' since there are later figures of Beast Wars characters. Universe Hotshot has his 'vintage' figure version in Armada. I don't much see 'vintage' as just being old, although obviously that's the real meaning. It may not be exact to the dictionary definition, but in regards to the thread question I feel it works better personally when defined like I suggested. I mean if there was only ever G1 and no other TF came after then we'd likely not be describing a G1 figure as 'vintage', just as 'Transformers' (although we'd not describe it as 'G1' if there was never a 'G2' and beyond). There has to be something later that it's 'vintage' to.

G1 is the only TF line I consider vintage.

I guess if it came before the ball joints era, you can consider them vintage.

Technically any transformer from "a good year" would be a vintage transformer.

Screw Astrotrain, doesn't Optimus Prime's trailer drone arm have a ball joint at the base?

Whenever I hear someone earnestly describe transformers as "vintage" I sort of want to shake them and yell "THEYRE NOT WINE!"

I would imagine G1. Same as with, when I think of vintage Star Wars toys, I think of the 1970s toys from Kenner.
