The right thing is a matter of opinion.

Even if his story is true he's a moron for the way he's gone about things. If this is true, how is whining about on a website/blog going to solve anything? No, this is just for his own self gratification and attention grabbing. IF the story is true then he really has no clue....

The kind of person he describes in his tall tale is the kind of person who will continue to be a theif regardless of whatever juvenile rantings are posted about them online. He hasn't accomplished a thing but making himself looking like an ass.

Did you ever think that maybe the reason the police wouldn't talk to him was the fact that he practically FORCED them to get off their asses and do something? That would probably make him not too popular in their book, and they wouldn't be likely to give him any more info to shame THEM with.
