Now in RotF, Optimus had 2 of everything:
2 energon swords
2 energon hoods
2 blaster/shotguns

In DotM, in the final battle we see him pull out an axe where his other gun would be...

Why an axe? What happen to the other gun? Or if he wanted another melee weapon why not just use his other energon blade?

Furthermore, with all the stuff these guys pull out of themselves (especially Optimus) are they not removing things like extra armor or an "organ"?

He had a trailer full of guns and hand weapons, some of which he strapped to his back, same as Ironhide did with his guns.

 

The axe came out of his back from the same location his guns are located.

 

Because he only had one sword. Remember how he threw it at Grindor's leg during the forest battle? I may be mistaken though.

 

On his back Optimus keeps guns and an axe. He just decided to not take out his gun and to take out the axe.

I noticed that in DOTM Prime actually holds his swords instead of them replacing his hand.

 

Axe=GEEWUN or bay looked at a masterpiece prime with his ax attachment.

 

Transformers can warp metal, Optimus simply warps the metal of his sword so it turns into an axe, it's simple.

 

There are ALOT of WHYs in the world....

 

That part confused me a bit.

somebody somewhere on here said in DOTM he was using "longswords", rather than the ROTF "shortswords", though I didn't notice a difference in length.
Even stranger, one scene clearly showed him ejecting the sword from it's customary sheath in his arm, and then disconnecting for him to grab with his hand.

Personal crazy-theory: Optimus has Wheeljack/Que "upgrade" all his weapons to be handheld, that way he can unceremoniously dump them when he's finished with them and ready to move on.  

 

It seems that OP can wield his swords in three ways now

1.Ejected from his forearm and he simply catches it and wields it like a normal sword. I don't know much about sword fighting but this seems like the best way to wield a sword.
2.Slides right over the top of his hand. This is only seen in promotional art and in the toys
3.His hand withdraws into his forearm and the sword pops out

The swords seem to retain the same length throughout the trilogy, but I'm not sure how exactly they fit into his forearms since they actually seem to be quite abit longer. An old height chart that had prime with his sword out showed it to be about 15ft in length. I can see it working if the swords folded or separated into pieces when stored...but that doesn't explain how he still has room to accommodate hooks as well.

I'm not even sure what to say about his dual ion cannons because the fuel tanks on his back only have enough mass to make one of them...but in DOTM he is seen pulling a large axe and a gun(not made from a fuel tank) out of his back in the same fight.

Its not a big deal, but the fact that Prime has so many weapons available to him without accessing his trailer is pretty damn scary.

 

Weird thing: at the end of ROTF, after optimus gets his Jetfire-pack, during the fight scene he does actually have his left sword out, overtop of his hand. Best seen when he slices through The Fallen's mouth, and the couple seconds after. Strange, I know...

 

I was hoping Optimus would pull out the Sword of Omens. Thunder... Thunder... Thunder Cats... Transform and roll out!!!
