I am thinking of selling a used ps2 console that i have had for 8 years. I am looking for some money but not expecting much cause it is used and an older console plus nobody really wants a ps2 anymore.

I would honestly be surprised if you got over 30 dollars for it if its just the system and one or 2 controllers. If you also have about 10ish games for it you might be able to get 80-100 depending on how good the games are. Also if it's a slim you might be able to get 10 or 15 dollars more.

Yeah, what Sam said. I don't even think 20, honestly.

I think I got $20 for mine from Gamestop

It belonged to the person who lived in our house before us. Left all his crap for us to clean up, so I didn't really care what I got for it.

Yeah, I'd think $20 would be the absolute maximum if you had everything with it. I think I remember seeing that they sell used systems for about $50, so in reality I wouldn't be at all surprised if they offered $10-15.

Just sell it here, you might be able to get like $35 - $40 for it. You're not going to get much from any trade-in place. Even Best Buy, who now has a trade-in program, would only offer a $23 gift card, $15 check if the system was in pristine condition. PS2's are a dime a dozen right now, and I see used ones for less than $50 all the time.

What Joe said. There are a few PS3 new owners here that wished for that Backwards compatibility and still have PS2 games. So a cheap PS2 might be a good buy. That and you'd get cash, not gamestop money.

Gamestop actually gives cash now. Though I believe it's less than the "trade-in" value.

    You should get roughly Treefitty!

In all seriousness though I would agree with everyone else, if you are trading in, be lucky to get about 35 to 45, If you take the cash, Don't be suprised if you see maybe 20 to 25. How much do you really want for it? And, is it the older version or a ps2 slim version? I may be interested only because I have been looking to play the KH series again.

Yeah, that's why I agreed he should try to sell it here.

They seriously lower the trade in value for cash. Like, you would walk out of there with 7 bucks, for something someone might give you 40 bucks for. :(

Poor trade value, among other things, is a reason I finally signed up for GameFly. Any games I really, really want, I might still buy. But, for the most part, I'll just rent, play for a week (or until I beat it) then send it back for something else.

So has anyone tried Best Buy's trade in deal? Are they worth it? One thing about Best Buy is that their Reward Zone really does pay off if you stick to it. I bought Monster's Inc Bluray because the sent me two 10 buck coupons, so I'd rather buy from them, and trading games in for value just convinces me more, if it's worth it.

I haven't yet. I randomly check the value of things here and there. But nothing jumped out as worth the price. But I do use the Reward Zone. I've already racked up like $500 in gift cards there since I joined.

We bought a second PS3, a TV and a TV stand in one day, but I think they have a 30 day waiting period, so I am expecting a coupon from them soon. They'd better for that madness. lol

edit: yup, just got 15 bucks.

Check the website. They no longer send them out. You have to check your point balance and print the coupons. Hurry, you might have some that may be close to expiring.

I've never ever gotten the point of selling games consoles way after the fact for next to nothing, its never worth it imo.

I sold my 360 (which was already showing symptoms of its 4th RROD) to get a PS3. At that time it definitely shaved some off price, but when a system is that old, it's not worth it.

I also sold my PS2 to get my Halo 360, and it definitely helped there, but now the value makes store trade in's not really recommended.
