I guess this could also apply to people who had account for a while & then rejoined the community at a later time, but how much have our collections grown since we started coming here every day, and how much of the blame (playfully of course) can be placed on it?

Like for me, I'm still pretty picky (be it by choice, as well as for financial & space reasons) as to why I end up buying, but I think its safe to say that my collection has doubled (if not tripled), especially in regards to the larger stuff that's joined it since last April. I suppose its only natural (as even other things that I've had since I was a kid are playing a more active role in my shelfspace), but it came up in conversation earlier today & I thought it'd be cool to see how its been for others.

Actually, if simply being part of an active community didn't do it, (or even if it did), what other factors can be attributed to its growth?

My collection increased tremendously after I attended Botcon last year. I've been to conventions before, but that was my first Botcon. I realized that at every convention I attended, I always looked for TF goodness first and foremost. At Botcon that wasn't a problem. That dealer room was TF paradise. Bought some great stuff, met some cool people, and have added a lot to my collection.

In terms of the size of my collection, hard to say exactly. If I had to estimate, I'd say my collection may have increased by 50% last year. Space and storage are always challenging, but I finally have a bookshelf where I can display some of my stuff.

Yeah, how silly of me to think that I'm "only getting Hubcap, Sideswipe, and a couple of BW dudes that I couldn't find as a kid". :D ream:

TFW made short work of that, yep.

When I joined in 2006, I had about 20 Classics figures. Now I have (on hand) 281 figures. Though, I would say roughly 600 have come and gone from my collection. I tend to buy the latest stuff, get bored wth it and sell it off. The only constant in my collection has been all of classics/universe (145 figs) and my Optimus Prime collection (37 figs).

Pretty sure I had like less than 50 figures before joining. Now I have hundreds. The B/S/T section helped.

My collection was growing whether I joined TFW or not. But did TFW have a hand in making me buy certain select figs definitely.

Oh definitely, and its especially funny when I've all but convinced myself that I don't need to want something, and then I see a good deal & have to jump on it. Like, if I knew what was good for my wallet, I'd probably never go on the computer for nonessential things like communication, porn, job hunting & youtube, but all know that's not possible... so now I just roll with it.

This Raticate still love all of you, though.

nice thread. I had 0 when I joined the site. well technically not zero because for some reason I got bored at work one day and typed "transformers" into google. This board came up and I saw that MP Grimlock was coming out so I relentlessly stalked my local TRU till I found one. Then I was hooked. I dug out my old G1 stuff from when I was a kid and at that point I switched fromlurker to poster (took about a month or two to make the switch). My collection now sits somewhere around 150, with probably 50-75 being sold/traded off in that span.

I love this site now and it is literally the only site on the net that I have an account on that I actually post on (well and cybertron.ca but mostly for sightings thread, I refuse to do facebook so this is my social networking lol)

My collection has grown a lot in the past year. Certainly joining TFW was a part of that because there are many figures I would have passed on but for people here raving enough about them. I don't have an exact number and besides there were other factors outside of TFW that contributed to the growth of my collection, but it is a major factor for sure.

To be honest it's quite a challenge to not cave in to the hype around here sometimes. For example, before coming here I would have balked at spending $75-100 on a Voyager class figure, nevermind if it's a convention exclusive and it looks fabulous and it's an awesome mold (I'm looking at you, Tokyo Toy Fair FE Clear Optimus Prime!). Away from here, a calm mind and a cooler head convince me NOT to buy (I already have an FE Optimus, I'd rather spend the $ on something different, etc.). But when all the retailers are selling out fast, it's hard not to get sucked in. (Thank goodness for being able to cancel preorders! :lol )

Plus there's all kinds of stuff I never really new existed, or appreciated, before joining. I used to be the kind of collector that just went to Target every now and then to see what was new. With that kind of approach I would never even have known about the Prime FE figures which are now some of my favorites, and it's even why I missed out on MP Grimlock entirely (I hadn't set foot in a TRU for YEARS until I came here and found out they had TF exclusives - D'OH).

No TFW no Collection it's really that simple for me. I sold my G1 collection when I was 13-15 years old and I never would have gotten back in if it was not for Binaltech and TFW.

Well, I use facebook too, but pretty much just to talk with friends who use it as their primary or only line of communication. If it wasn't for the convenience factor & the occasional posts in a yugioh group, I'd be lucky to check on it for 30 seconds every few days.

Forums like this one on the other hand, that's a different story, and its where the vast majority of my social interaction online comes from. I'd probably still have gotten back into Transformers regardless because of how much I liked the Hubcap I bought on impulse & because I was still actively looking to get a TM Tarantulas & movie Sideswipe, but past those, I wouldn't have even known about most of the shit I've bought since, and I might have not even started watching TF Prime.

Also, now I wanna know Crystal Convoy's secret. :D

I don't know how much my collection has grown. Joined this site about a year after I got back into transformers. I was on Seibertron for about a year before that, and slowly our whole local community shifted from there over to here (Our Seibertron sightings page is dead while this one is one of the most posted in threads on the site). I will say since joining this site, I have met/become friends with a ton of locals which is even better. When I first attended the local Cybcon show in 2009, I probably knew 3 locals, and now I know atleast 30. It has probably helped influence some purchases, and provided me with more ways to get different items, but it has become more about the community for me since joining.

As far as collection, I probably went from 100-150 when I joined here to (guessing) 600-700.

In 2001 when I first got into the fandom I had maybe 50-100 G1 toys from mine and my brother's childhood.

Now I have them all in some shape or form.

I've got toys I'd never have dared to dream of owning back then too. Metalhawk, Deathsaurus, Victory Saber.

It really spiked when I moved to a bigger city where more members live. Going from a place that's just me to a place that has about a dozen members really help my collection. We all look out for each other and make sure we all get the figures we're after. Also have first pickings before they put stuff on their sales thread.

I wouldn't have a lot of the figures I have now it if weren't for some of my fellow board members.

I signed up back in 08, but never posted till late last year. I've been over at TFans/TFormers for the longest, but my interest in TF was dying over there. Lack of members/posts/news for the longest time.... but those weren't the real reasons why I jumped ship, which I won't say, but I did enjoy my time over there. Even though I'm still selling most of my collection, I have found that by moving here, I've bought alot of stuff I originally wouldn't have gone after had I stayed there. Not just the new stuff, but old stuff. Herc, never would've picked him up, Megathread changed that.
