when the transformers first hit the shelves all those years ago, how much did they cost?
That is a damn good question, I have no idea.
A movie ticket was like 3 dollars, thats all I know.
Good question. I don't know. Hopefully somebody can tell us because I'm interested in knowing as well.
I think autobot cars were $10.
G1 Kup was like the last one I got as a kid and I believe he was around $10.99. Anything before that I can't hardly remember.
Here is a good referance.
wow minibots were cheaper than legends
wow minibots were $2.50 back then!
Another great reference.

It's funny this threat came up. After another thread yesterday about whom had the best posability during G1. It had me thinking about those day.
I remember as a kid Jetfire, Shockwave, Optimus Prime and Megatron being $24.
$7 for Autobot Cars,
$10-12 for Decepticon Seekers,
Insecticons, Cassette 2-packs and Combiner limbs were $5
Combiner Torsos were about $9-12
Triple Changers were about $10-12,
Mini-bots were $3
Combiner Giftsets were $25
Soundwave and Blaster were about $15.............
This is really getting depressing.............
and in case anyone forgot about the economics aspect of it:

The old catalog scans are good starting point and are fun to look at, but I still hope to someday find out what the original MSRP prices were. Do you think Hasbro would still have that kind of information, and if so, likely to part with it?
A Minty Fortress Maximus wouldn't be so bad right now for $190.
I'll just fire up the DeLorean & go back to Japan in 1987! (gotta get the Japanese release with the swords... ) So, How many Fort Max's can I put you down for?
all i know is Fort Max's american retail price was $100
I heard dinobots were like 11.99.
Let's start with 5 and we'll go from there.
metroplex cost me $33 with tax at the airforce base exchange using their lay a way program back in the day...damn it took all summer mowing lawns to get that $$ together...but he was worth it...
nice to get the encore one just to have a minty fresh one all over again...
