Thunderwing is a Prime in the sense that the Matrix recognizes him as such. If Alternators storyline is part of G1, that should make Nemesis Prime a genuine Prime?
If you go by the Galaxy force continuity: Evac-Live Convoy Metroplex- Megalo Convoy Override- Nitro Convoy Scourge- Flame Convoy and would Serpent-OR count as a Prime?

Character-wise, there are actually five different Optimus Primes: G1/G2/MW* Optimus RiD Optimus A/E/C Optimus Movie Optimus Animated Optimus *Machine Wars is debatable
Can you elaborate more on what they said and why? I gave up on energon towards the end, so I didn't pay attention early on in cybertron. Then the toys came out and I quickly changed my mind =) Have there ever been any pics from Dreamwave of Alpha, Guardian and Sentinel Prime? (Aside from Sentinel's smashed head at the beginning of War Within) ...and what about the bearers of the matrix in G1's Five Faces Of Darkness? Wouldn't they be Prime's? Or does it even matter since we never knew there names anyway?

They just said he wasnt a Prime. in fact, I think they made vector prime himself say it on transformers.com "ask vector prime" section. more info: Vector Prime's name is the same as his japanese version. in japan, there are no primes, the word is replaced with "convoy". so if vector prime was going to me a real "prime", he would have been called "vector convoy" in japan.
This is my question too because the G1 continiuty has the Prima, Primon Prime, Nova, Optimus, and Rodimus. When Optimus travels into the matrix we see Alpha Trion who did hold the matrix for a while (does that make him a prime and he was definitely a leader) as well as 3 faces until it turned into a hybrid tf/quint looking face just made by lines.
From Hasbro's "Ask Vector Prime" Q: Are you related to Optimus Prime? A: Optimus Prime and I are not really related but we share the name Prime because that is a name given to Autobots with important jobs.
Not english continuity, but Star Saber is a prime per se. He is the Commander and Chief of autobots in his series. With respects even being given by apex armor prime. (Who is G1 prime? The whole ginrai/apex rebuilt G1 prime thing confuses me.) Like how the BT prime was ginrai also. Or something.
if you're going to mention the Japanese leaders who didnt actually have Prime in their name, you also have to include Fortress Maximus, God Ginrai, Dai Atlas, and Sky Garry. And if you're gonna do that, you might as well throw in Thunder Clash and Pyro from Europe.
