How many of the same toy do you own/buy?

I ask this because even some collectors look at me strange for buying two of some items - one for display and one to keep MISB/MOSC (possibly to sell later on or to just display in the box).

I have two each of all the TRU reissues, the book reissues (that the TRU releases didn't cover), MP Starscream and Megatron, and exclusives like the Walmart Bruticus, and Japan TRU Buildtron...and some more I can't think of off the top of my head. Then I have the e-hobby G1 exclusives, despite the fact that I may already have an original of the toy and/or a TRU reissue. Is this overkill?

I was just wondering if I'm the only one who does this. If you do it too, is it to resell later, display, or both? What determines which toys you will buy multiples of? Projected resale value? Just the idea of having a fav toy still in the box?

depends, usually two, unless I am going to kitbash one or for another reason. I bought 5 prototype Bumblebees, one MISB, one in car mode and one in Robot mode. 2 to kitbash into whatever color Camaro I end up buying. Its the first Camaro Transformer other than a lame canned minicar from G2, so i had to buy him up. And I always buy 3 primes, MISB, Robot, vehicle.

I usually buy 1. Whether its MIB or loose varies on 1. What it is, 2. Country of origin, and 3. How big the packaging is.

However, I do occasionally buy a duplicate or two for a custom of some sort (or clearanced multi-packs for less than the price of the ONE figre I want/don't have)

    One for most things.

Two or more for items I really like (also if it's relatively easy/inexpensive to do so.)

The only figs i've ever purchased multiples of were the WST dinobots. I blame the stocking stuffer campaign and me getting two G2 grimmys. Damn their marketing! It worked!

    Ebay:
Usually I try to buy 2, one to keep MIB, one to play with.
If I cannot, I buy one and suffer the fate of forever looking at it through its plastic and cardboard inprisonment

LOL, I don't think there's a domestic release G1 toy that I ONLY have one of at this point.

I must have close to a dozen G1 Primes, half dozen Jetfires, Grimlocks, Sludges, Soundwaves.... A box full of Constructicons (no Hooks, of course...) and Insecticons... And Jumpstarters out the wazoo... Of course not all are 100% complete, but most are.

It's kind of just the way I collect - Preferring to buy collections rather than single items. Plus, I do set up once a year at Botcon. Not so much to make a profit, but to cover my expenses and the cost of the items I buy there.

When I was collecting Star Wars I would buy one to open and one to keep in the package.

    Now I just buy one.

Figure I have the most multiples is RID Prime. One for regular mode, one for super mode, one for Omega Prime and another MISB.
