Or rather, how many times do you have to fall back on the instructions/video reviews before you memorize the transformation of a toy?

I pick up transformation sequences pretty quickly. Usually I'll transform them to alt mode and back using the instructions, and from then on out I can commit it to memory. Granted, the first transformation usually takes a while. (My current record is ROTF leader prime. Took me a solid HOUR to figure him out)

It only takes one transformation for me using the instructions, then I can do it by myself.

I don't use the instructions (takes away the fun) so, it take me once into robot then is all good from there....

Though in '07 when I got my first Leader (Prime) figure in .... 5 years, I used the instructions and video and stuff.

How can you guys transform them for the first time without using the instructions? Last time I did that, with ROTF Deluxe Sideswipe, I broke his foot off. >_<

Maybe about twice, back and forth, without instructions.

Takes me about 3 or 4 transformations to figure it out without the instructions. Though if I don't transform a certain toy for a while I forget how to transform it and have to re-learn it.

It really depends on the toy, and how long it's been since I've TF'd it. With pricy vintage stuff like my old G1, I often have my instructions handy just to make sure I don't risk breakage.

Even then I screw up sometimes. I cracked the hinge on my Hardhead's Tech spec chest piece. I forgot how brittle that piece got on that toy over time.

I just know I'm going to destroy a Decepticon Targetmaster someday.

Transforming a toy for me is like riding a bike: TF it once to vehicle and once to robot (Without intstructions) and I'm good.

I always use the instructions the first time in fear of breaking the figure. After that it usually only takes one more time and I'm pretty solid for life.

Depends on the toy, but if it's a voyager class and under, I don't use instructions, but refer to the images on the package (so if there's a mistransformation in the image, I often go with it :lol ). And because it involves lots of trial and error I tend to remember the process well with this first go. ROTF deluxe Wheelie was an exception, I just couldn't remember how to transform him at all!

If the figure is larger I look at the instructions, thus not remembering much. I don't TF large figures often though and it doesn't help my memory.

I usually look at the instructions, give up halfway through, look at the toy's picture on the box, and either A. Figure it out, or B. Throw the toy across the room.

First I try without instructions keeping in mind I am not a Jedi and if a part doesn't fit, I don't use force power. If I come to a stalemate with a figure then I'll use instructions. If I get it tf'd without instructions, then I refer back to see if I did it properly.

I hardly have any problems. Just watch a video and transform the figure. Then I pretty much got it at that point.

Once. But I've noticed in a time where I buy multiple TFs I'm having a harder time recalling transformation.

    ROTF Mixmaster, you are horrible.

For most mainline toys I don't really need theinstructions. For more complex ones or Masterpiece toys I glance over them to make sure I don't break anything. Only TF I've really religiously followed the instructions for s MP Megstron. Heard way too many horror stories about that thing.

Anyway, long story short it's 0-1 time for me.

I don't use instructions, ever. As soon as I get a TF, I just fiddle with each mode to get it into the other mode. After that, I memorize the transformation instantly.

There are some exceptions, but that's when either one of the modes is a load of bollocks, like ROTF Fallen's alt-mode.

The first transformation, I try to figure it out myself.
After that, I could transform them without a problem.
