My and my coworkers go into a discussion about the letter z. We were talking about reviews he has seen 'Vettes and motocross bikes where the reviewer calls the letter z "zed". I looked up some things on line and never got a definitive answer. Did us American's screw this up? Can you chaps across the pond give us some insight?

What do you mean? "Zed" is not a mispronunciation of the letter "z". It's just a moniker. I never use the word "Zed" to refer to "z"... if that answers your question.

Zed is the English way of saying Zee. I remember when I was being taught the alphabet when I was a tadpole and it was very much stated the correct way to pronounce Z is the sound Zed.

I guess what I am asking is when did the pronunciation change? After all, the U.S. started as a collection of Europeans. I read somewhere it changed because we were pissed at King George so we did it for spite, but that seems assanine.

It should be "zed" if you're outside the USA but thanks to TV and Sesame Street lots of foreign children will pronounce it "zee."

I also call water "agua" due to Seasame Street.

Is your last name "Z" or "Zee".

    Camaro Zed 28 sounds tough
    Camaro Zee 28 sounds weak

same works for all auto use of Z, Nissan Zee car or Zed car.... BMW Zed 3

Zee is lame. The only good thing it has going for it is it rhymes with V and me
