I think we've seen enough, particularly with Optimus and Arcee, to be able to start judging. How do you feel about the mouths they are using for this series?

So far, from those two, I'm not a fan, especially with, like many, Optimus'. It looks like a tiny little hole in a big face.

    Thoughts? Comments? Rebuttals?

someone should nick Prime's face so he has to wear the mask instead.

I don't want to see that creepy slit any more than necessary.

Arcee is fine, but Prime.... It's like Hasbro was receiving so many complaints about his big lips in the movies that they decided not to give him lips at all.

I've never found liquid metal to be a good/believable effect in anything I've ever seen it in, and I wish I never see it utilized again.

I like them. Optimus looks much more robotic without lips, but he still looks human enough to relate to. I'm more concerned about his lack of a nose, but I won't care about the design if the story is good.

What works for a graphic, stylized drawing doesn't always look right in 3 dimensions.

But the thing here is they seem to have made it believable on most of the characters except Optimus.

Looks better than BARK BARK BARK metal faces like in War for Cybertron and Energon/Cybertron.

And I actualy like Prime's face, blocky and with a : [ mouth makes him look mature y'know

Maybe it's just that one shot? We really only have the one closeup of Prime talking.

Agreed. He may not have the details of a mature/elder face, but the shape is there.

I can agree that Prime's face looks a little bland, but not really as bad as some are making it out to be. I think I'll be able to get use to it.

I also don't really think his mouth looked all that tiny. I think again it's got more to do with the lack of detail. Maybe if he had a bit of a lower lip would help.

In the short bit we saw I thought the overall mouthshape didn't really match the voice well at all.

As simple as they are, the others seem to have more characteristic mouthshapes, where Optimus just gets a blank. And it might be the sharp details of the nosebridge, but there's also something vaguely skull-like about it (though maybe it's just in that one screencap Paxtin posted).

We'll have to wait and see how it pans out. Hopefully they'll work out the kinks and get it to look more believable. Either that or rely on the face-plate more.

That may just be because it's a trailer. They sometimes will take the animation of a character talking from one scene and then tag on a unrelated audio clip from another. I don't really know why they do that, but I see it all the time with animated movies and such.

    Hows this?

Sorry, smaller resolution because I had to use the youtube vid to get it.

Y'know, I'm surprised no-one has drawn attention to Prime's thick 'eyebrows' yet (probably coz they're what's giving Prime's expression some maturity imo).

But in regards to the mouth, it does seem rather simplistic and bland on the first few viewings. But I think as we see Prime talking more and his lips moving with words, we'll not mind the mouth so much. I wonder tho', what would the bots have looked like if they had some kind of visible lip detailing around their mouths, for example, if Arcee had some 'lipstick' colour?

I think one of the best thing about the designs in this show are the eyebrows, not just they look good, they're also a great way to express! In that earlier unfinished action we saw, Bumblebee's OH SHIT face was just his eyebrows moving and it looked great..

Actually she does. There's a slight shade of pink. It's faint, but there.

I also like how Arcee's white isn't actualy white, but a nice clear coral pink.

Can't wait to see everybody! The renders in show look much better than the promo art.

I'd probably like them if they 'moved' better. The movements are exaggerated, befitting the designs, but Arcee's 'this ends here' moves in such a way that really doesn't even try to match the speech outside of syllables, 'alien superstructure' arguments be damned. A result of using foreign animators, I guess: I'm sure there'd be a similar issue if, say, France was doing the CGI too. Hopefully it's something the Japanese animation team will get better at over the years.
