The reason I started this Thread is because every now and then someone brings up the old "hideous repaints" comments.
I for one like repaints for many reasons....
#1. It is a good way of expanding the Transformers Universe. (Toys and Series)
I immediately think of the Gen. One Seekers. They have the same bodies... yet it is amazing how diffrent they all seemed with only their voices, colors, abilities, and personalities diffrent.
#2.The new Galvatron Anime release! This toy is great! I do not regret selling my original Galvatron toy at all. This is the way the original should have looked. Thank Takara for this repaint.
Anyway this is how I feel. And yes I do think that some of the repaints are ugly. But I am thankful for them anyway.
What do you think? Do you think repaints just cheapen the originals? Let's hear it.

I don't mind repaints. It gives more variety of choices. I don't even mind the ugly ones as I'm not required to buy them but someone else might like them. And I actually like repaints of the great molds.

It depends to be honest there are good repaints

    1)The seekers as you mentioned
    2)Primal Prime - BM
    3)Razorclaw - TF Universe

I think the key with repaints is that if a)They're done right and b)Actually get some characterization then they are a good

But repaints just for the sake of repaints TO ME feels pretty cheap. For example Omega Sentinel from Energon.IMHO a useless repaint simply to fill out a toy line

Oh and in the case of Galvatron you mentioned B2BA.In essence he is a repaint but also he's kind of a retool judging from the head.Plus Takara added the Matrix as something extra

It's a double-edged sword for me. I like the "idea" of repaints. And back in the days of RID, most repaints were superior to their originals (The Machine Wars repaints, etc.). Now it seems that it's very hit and miss for me. Sometimes we'll see an original colorscheme, followed up by a not-so-hot cololrscheme (Energon Snowcat and Downshift come to mind).

But on figures that have an excellent repaint, I'm usually more than happy to pick them up.

I like repaints, mostly if they are new characters or have a REALLY good reason for being the same (powers up don't count, but Cybertron Sky Shadow is fine). It also helps if the color scheme is good.

I don't like them at all. yes, I'm kind of a geewuner, but I can only put up with it in places where it seems to make sense, like with the alt. subaru brothers. other than that, I'd prefer that they just picked the best possible color scheme the first time around. as it is, I'm thankful for the internet, so I can see upcoming pics of repaints so I can figure out which version of a mold to get.

I like repaints. Some molds are just too good to only have one color scheme. Having more characters is good, too.

I like them better than the original most of the time. Since the originals seem like they throw a weak paint scheme on it , so they can keep selling the mold in the future with new paintjobs to drive em. They may have gotten a wee bit carried away with the black though, and all the exclusive strings attached.

I like it when autobots are repainted into decepticons and vise versa. Remolds rock even more though.

I hate repaints for repaints sake. I also wish they would put some more time into the repaints. Some come off must buy, but most come off meh. Some of the upcoming alt-repaints for instance. The reason you could get away with repainting Dead End into Sunstreaker is the mold was so obviously Sunstreaker. But upcomming repaints are just repaints and they don't make much sense to me. More than likely there will be a pile of roll bars at the local Toys R Us. They should at least get new heads. Heck even swerve got a new head. I think many people are tired of the "Lets repaint Megatron in to Galvatron" EVERY LINE!!! It's been done to death at this point. Some examples of good repaints are the upcoming Hotshot to Hotrod colors. The takara Galvatron repaint, the Thundercraker repaint from armada, and so on. Those repaints looked good, they didn't look like they just slapped paint on a figure. I prefer slight re-molds such as Blurr from the cybertron line and the Alternators. I seen many convention exclusives that have looked better than the Hasboro versions.

Repaints only anoy me in regards to in show repaints (Energon being a good example). Character A gets upgrade to new colors and all of a sudden decides to be called character B so that another toy can be sold.

G1 worked well in this respect as the repaints were indeed diffrent characters and were in the show alongside thier counterparts (the seekers for example).

That is all I have for now.

I don't mind repaints, gives more life to the molds... however, I don't think every single figure needs a repaint. Just the best of the best should be repainted. Armada and to a lesser extent Energon were just way too repaint happy, IMO.

I've got nothing against repaints, but I would only buy them (assuming I already had the first version of the mold) if:

. It looked good, or at least better than the original (Universe Razorclaw, Rid Super Prowl)

. It's 'special', usually meaning it has a character homage attached. (Energon Galvatron, Alt. Sunstreaker, Universe Skywarp, Powerlinx Armada Thrust)

I think your a and b pretty well sum up my fellings on them. If it's a new character or even just a mold I like; unless the colors are aweful, I'll probably get it. The BM Jetstorm mold is a good example of this. I've gotten all of the repaints that have come out of it and have liked each one. They kinda are neo seekers for me.

On the other hand if the repaint is a remake of an older character and either the colors aren't right or the mold doesn't fit that character in my opinion, I probably won't get it. An example of this is the upcoming Alt Ricochet. If that was made from the Meister mold, i'd buy it in a second, but since they used the Subaru mold, unles it looks absolutely breathtaking in person I seriously doubt I'll get it.

With repaints, as stated by many, it varies. If it is a later re-release of an original character and the repaint's colors still fit the character, sure I don't mind if it isn't too expensive. But if it looks like it was eaten, swallowed, digested, then shat out by some colorblind model painter then count me out.

Some of the Binaltech/Alternators line I prefer over the originals. I like Broadblast better then Skids, blue Prowl over the HP themed one, and the Shinka special edition Shockwave (a bit) over Jazz because of the remolded parts and a bit extra style

If it's a new character or if they obviously look like an older character but are painted different (Cybertron Hot Shot, for example), I don't mind a repaint in the appropriate scheme. I wish they had repainted Armada Wheeljack as Sideswipe, though.

I really like most of the repaints. the only thing I don't like is that most of the Autobot Repaints No have that Huge let me try that again FREAKING HUGE Autobot symbol on them now Swerve(Which really ruined a bad ass looking repaint) Wheeljack and Prowl from Universe come to mind. Aren't they Robots in disguise?!? Lets me show off the fact that Im an Autobot Look Decepticons a Large Target for you to aim at. Makes you wonder who thinks up these ideas.
