How do you feel about Megatron’s name NOT being original?

I liked it better when Megatron was his name and his alone; it made him a better character. He wasn't chasing after someone else's failed destiny, but was making his own.

With the live-action movies making him a disciple of the Fallen and the new aligned continuity having him taking his moniker from Megatronous, I can’t help but think how stupid it was of Megatron to take the name of the guy who betrayed the Primes. What did he expect was going to happen when he went before the High Council to express his vision for the future—did they really listen to him or were they sidelined and dumbfounded by his choice of name and the old wounds tied to it? Why would he purposefully make it hard on himself by choosing a name that has a stained history?

I know very little about Megatronous, can’t say that I care much, really, but why did Megatron choose this name?

Megatronus was one of the original Primes and I assume Megatron wanted to pay homage to him.

Because Hasbro made him take the name.

Why choose the name of the one who betrayed Cybertron if he himself was going to defy the will of Primus? 13 names to choose from and he chose that one?! Why?!

    EDIT:
If this is IT that's a pretty stupid reason:(

But everyone knew his name prior to that. His name was chanted in the pits.

Yeah, I think The Fallen might be a secret, and only the Primes know Megatronus was the Fallen.

The fact that he was a gladiator might have to do something with the name.

I don't mind the change.Though I find it funny he can't stand traitors while his name actually came from a traitor.

Well, maybe instead of a traitor he looks up to him as a justified rebel.

Yep, that's pretty insane but consider who is it we're talking about.

I like the change. It fits his gladiatorial past, and fits his character well, imho. He apparently was once a very honorable being, and decided to honor one of the ancients by taking on one of their names.

maybe there was a cover up and no one knew the fallen was megatronus, instead the fallen killed megatronus.

also known as the story of darth vader and aniken before we learned who luke's father was.

    I don't really care.

Why? Because this isn't exactly a new development. Megatron getting his name from somewhere else has been used as far back as Beast Wars when the covenant of Primus was introduced.

Bulkhead’s comments about the Fallen in Transformers: Prime leads me to believe that the Fallen's betrayal was common knowledge.

to the British, the founding fathers of the United States were traitors to the Crown and their country. Their victory in the War of Independance makes them freedom fighters. Had they lost, they'd all have been hung.

What I'm trying to say is that Megatron's obvious insanity and God-complex may have no bearing on his choice of the name. Perhaps Megatronus was a great leader of armies who helped to bring stability to Cybertron in any civil wars prior to the Great War.

    With any luck,
the reverting of Optimus Prime to Orion Pax will allow this be revealed to us

It might have been common knowledge that one of them betrayed the others. However, how do we know the common Cybertronian knows which of the 13 betrayed the others?

True, but they might not know that the Fallen and Megatronus are the same bot. That bit of knowledge could have been lost over the ages.

Or maybe he just wanted to scare the crap out of the opponents facing him in the arena?

I honestly couldn't give a damn about where his name came from, so long as he's not Sparklurtron. Or Galvatron.

I don't know how different Transformers: Prime will differ from Alex Irvine's newest book, but Megatronus clearly was up to nefarious deeds, and at least one other Prime knew it (I haven’t finished the book yet, so…).
