When he first I was indifferent to him. But lately I've warmed up to him. Even reread his mini series. I'm hoping now that he lasts for a long time. Glad I got his toy when it first came out.

I haven't read AHM which is where I understand a lot of the hate for him came from, but I enjoyed his Spotlight and Mini Series and the part he playedin Chaos, and of course I'm loving him in MTMTE, really like his happy clappy hippyness thinly laid over the core of anger and self hatred. Can't wait until he catches up with whoever wrecked Crystal City. I'm also dying to see him come face to face with Metalhawk at some point. All in all I like him. He's becoming a real character and part of the mythos now.

    Still dislike the character.

But I like James Robert's work, so as long as James is writing him, he's completely fine.

I went from having mild dislike of what I thought the character was going to be. To actually liking the little bits of the character that I have read. Drift is especially interesting in this latest series.

The initial concept of him was absolute crap (Hey, let's drop this badass bad guy turned good mary sue into the middle of our story!), but now that he's actually doing stuff now instead of having to rely on a writer-fabricated backstory simply to make him look impressive for no real reason, he's a good original character for IDW now.

Still want a Turmoil to go with his toy, though.

Yes that meeting with Metalhawk needs to happen soon. I also wonder where he ranks on the DJD list.

This series has been my only exposure to him. I'm getting a kick out of him.

I really don't understand the initial hate for the guy, seems kinda biased to me. I think he's a really cool character. Who doesn't like the "once bad guy turned good guy" archetype.

Well, yeah, that's what bias is.

People need to look up the word "bias" to find out what it means and now that it's not a bad thing. Everyone has bias. An opinion is bias. Cognitive thought creates bias.

Anybody who's seen it done wrong?

Not saying Drift wasn't, but the former villain turned hero is a trope many find tired and forced if it's not carried out with actual meaning aside from "He was cool 'cuz he was a Decepticon which are cool."

What did he do? I don't remember Roche ever writing him. You mean Roberts? How could you not like Robert's Drift? He actually has a character, now!

Do you mean design wise for Roche? I don't think Roche ever wrote him. I could be wrong though. I like the way Roberts writes him.

Drift never meant anything to me before MtMtE. I didn't feel strongly enough about him to hate him as some did/do. I just didn't care. He was a trying too hard to be cool nobody inserted in the book and mostly I just read past him when I noticed him at all. Passed on the toy because there was no reason to want it.

Then Roberts went and made him awesome. Drift in MtMtE has an actual personality. And depth. And 3dimensional character issues. He's likeable, and stupid and troubled and fun in an authentic way. The annual was pretty much the last step in his redemption to bonified likeable developed character.

-ZacWilliam, and now I'm kinda annoyed I passed on the toy, darn you Roberts! ;)

He's fine. He stands out as being in the comic first then a toy was made of him. I think if he didn't have a toy, I wouldn't care for him as much.

But most of his hype did not come from the actual comic. It came from solicitations and fan reaction before we even saw him in an issue of the comic. As far as his actual first appearance goes, he did cool stuff but then so do all major new characters in a comic book or TV episode. Look at Prime Smokescreen's entrance. Then they settle down and become regular characters.

I think the change from bad to good has only been done well a few times. Vegeta from dragon ball is the only one that sticks out in my mind that has been handled in a great way with that entire situation.
