Just curious to how do you make this decision....
By transforming them. Seriously. I feel sorry for those of you who are too OCD to touch your own action figures.
Depends on which mode takes up less space.
Generations - bot mode
RTS - bot mode
Movie figures - vehicle mode
TF Prime - switch back and forth periodically
I always switch my bots back and fourth
I only display in robot mode.
All get displayed in bot mode, but I occasionally fiddle with them from time to time transforming them, and finding new poses for them. The only exceptions being the junkions, gotta have some riding others.
Almost all of mine are displayed in bot mode mainly because I don't see the point of leaving them in alt mode. The only exceptions would be if I have doubles,or a special paint scheme like the TRU Scan Series figures.
I just grab a transformer and transform it and just leave it at that until I pick it up later or transform it back.
Generally, it's based on which mode looks the best (bot mode usually wins out), though a few are exceptions due to various factors. My fiancee's shelf has a couple of Cybertron Velocitronians in vehicle mode because they look slick. Meanwhile, all mine are in bot mode except for Cyb. Override, mostly so Fracture/Crasher can be stepping on her while still being balanced.
Since I like to look at the characters in robot and vehicle (alt) mode at the same time...I purchase two for each figure that I want.
I will never own any of the original G1 figures, or any of the other really expensive toys because of this. I wanted to get the original Devastator, but since I like to see them in robot and alt mode...plus I would need one in Devastator mode...I would need 3 sets. 0_0 The Prime FE's that cost an arm and a leg will also be out of reach since I would need two.
I have no problem touching/playing with my Transformers. I usually pick up the one in alt mode and transform it to robot mode, and then back to alt mode. I just think that it looks cooler on the shelf to see both modes without having to mess around and transform the one figure to see the alternate mode.
I'm probably in the minority with this type of thinking (two of each on the shelf).
I switch back and forth on most of them, but Binaltech stay in vehicle mode 90% of the time and my Movie Leader Class stay robot 90% of the time.
Yeah, this describes me pretty good, too. No plan or anything.
The ones that look best in alt mode will stay in alt mode the longest. But I still pick 'em up every now and again and transform them to robot mode.
Mine are generally bot mode on shelf almost without exception.... Every now and then I might transform a shelfs worth to alt mode for fun and leave em like that for awhile bot not mode is deffs there default setting.
Just that :3
I just display them primarily in whichever mode I like the look of better. There's occasional exceptions, like if I have a specific scene in mind I want to make, or if I happen to pick one up and transform it while playing around. Most of them do end up in robot mode but that's just because I like most robot modes better than the characters' corresponding alternate modes; it's certainly not a "rule" of my display.
I normally keep them in robot mode but if there're any exceptions, it's probably bec certain bots to me have really nice vehicle modes that I try to transform em back to it every once in a while.
bot mode, except dinobots get occasionally left in dino mode, alts are half and half, and g1 i like to have a couple bodies to display in alt mode, the second doesn't need to be a complete bot for that anyways
Everyone in Bot mode.
Doubles and some repaints in alt mode
Separate names with a comma.
