Other than those who can stick their heads out while in alt mode, do they see through the windshield or something? I know in Prime it shows the bots and cons using their rear view mirror to see a lot of things, so can they see in anything humans would be able to see out of such as rear view mirrors and windshields or is it sensors?

    Headcanon:
Their "skin" in altmode contains cells that act like the feelers of insects, only much more sophisticated.
So they actually have eyes and ears all around their body.

I've always assumed that they see through their lights, but in The Ultimate Doom Prime has to polarize his windshields to repeal heavy rain. How ever they see in alt mode I think it's safe to say it's not as good as how they see in bot mode, otherwise why boy always be a tank?

They are "machines" they don't necessarily need "eyes" to "see" their surroundings

    according to the wiki

In one story, it is explained that Transformers have some form of a linked visual network throughout their alternate form, whereas in other cases everyone is just drawn with big googly eyes inside their vehicle mode headlight

Maybe they have cameras at different angles that act like a second pair of eyes?

I just like to imagine that their headlights act as optics in vehicle mode.

Also you mentioned transformers who have their robot heads in vehicle mode but no mention of beastformers?

I think the only one who looks out through the windshield is X-Brawn and possibly cybertronian mode transformers just to give a possible canon explination for why they even have windshields on Cybertron.

That's actually Hoist, and stuff like that (and the Megatron in a Cadillac) always cracks me up.

On topic, yeah, I vote sensor network. In cars nowadays you get dashcams and reversing cameras and stuff, so it's not a stretch to assume Transformers have something similar but more advanced.
