How would a creation of Primacron know about a Cybertronian artifact?

He's a giant planet eating space god. How would he not?

Also, he can hack into the security cameras and defenses of Cybertronian technology, so he saw the whole optimus death thingy. It was literally in the movie.

Yeah, it didn't seem particularly uncommon knowledge among the Autobots. Unicron's been around a long, long time, and he's clearly very powerful and very knowledgeable. Why WOULDN'T he know about the matrix, given it was apparently designed specifically to destroy him?

It is kinda bs that they never explained where the matrix came from or how it was connected to Unicron IN the movie.

And even "Call of the Primitives" didn't offer much in the way of explanations. How come the Primacron's assistant carried the matrix and not Primacron himself? Why does he have anything to do with Cybertron, when the TFs & their planet were apparently created by the Quintessons in the toon continuity? So much stuff left unexplained.

Unicron somehow managed to get video of dying Optimus Prime passing the Matrix to Ultra Magnus on his strange ball-of-televisions brain, despite not being anywhere near there, so I think knowing ahead of time about stuff that can kill him is within his power set.

He's like the old Saturday Morning Cartoon villains that could somehow monitor the protagonists no matter where they were.

Retroactively, it could be because of the whole "Primus/Unicron" story and how the Matrix is a direct line to Primus, thus the bane of Unicron's existence. So of course he knows about it. As for whatever their original reasoning was, I'm not sure they had one.

In early drafts of the TF:TM screenplay, Unicron is a Quintesson creation.
One thing that never made sense to me about "Call of the Primitives" is how it makes Unicron seem disconnected from the Transformers, Cybertron, Vector Sigma, the Quintessons, etc.

I headcanon Al-Badur sold the technology to Primacron (or the Primacronians - his ancestors - in my fanfic) thats why he got banished when the other Quints found out.

Maybe he googled the info, since the movie did take place in 2005. :D

In my head-canon, the Primacron's assistant is the last survivor of a super-intelligent genius caste of Quintessons that no longer exist in the present day (maybe they all ascended to a higher state of consciousness)?

This would explain why the Transformers can do all sorts of physics-defying stuff (e.g. shrink and grow, change mass, make noises in the vacuum of space, turn into ghosts when they die etc.), whereas their creators (i.e. the Quintessons of the cartoon series) are so inept.

For example, the 21st-century Quints can't even blow up their own planet correctly, they get defeated at every turn, and they think that hypnotising the Junkions to make them hate all other forms of life will somehow make it easier for the Sharkticons to search their planet for a missing canister. Hmm, ok then.

If we assume that the Transformers' weird powers were bestowed by these now-dead uber-Quints, that would explain an awful lot.

Yes but it also "looked like" sideswipe joined The decepticons In one episode

It also "looked like" there were 2 Optimus primes in an other

It also "looked like" bruticus was standing side by side with all 5 individual combaticons in an other episode

I wonder if Primacron created the Quintessons, but the Quintessons turned on Primacron and stole the Matrix of Leadership from him, prompting Primacron to create Unicron to destroy the Quintessons.

One thing is an animation error, the other is a hint at the Matrix's cartoon origins.

In an episode dealing with the origins of Unicron, and the matrix just happens to appear... not buying it. This was more than a simple animation error or off-model character.

Also- that was clearly a Decepticon testing out their holographic camo, not really Sideswipe. ;)

My headcannon is that Primacron created the Quintessons, but eventually grew bored of them/forgot about them/became negligent and left them to their own devices, etc. It would explain why the Quints appear to be biomechanical, and also why the Matrix-like Unicron-killing thing ended up on Cybertron and in Quintesson hands--er, tentacles--presumably becoming the Matrix of Leadership. Would also explain why Quintesson-made robots (using technology derived from Primacron's) would be capable of "learning" to transform. Unicron already has that technology, obviously.
