Not that unusual. Final frontier had an ungraded 1984 sunstreaker for sale for about a year with a hole punched in the flap. It was mint other than the hole in the flap. I almost pulled the trigger on it but i couldnt do it because of the hole. They sent it to AFA, it recieved an 85. They sold it in less than a week for around $1800.

Wow. Do AFA even LOOK at what they're grading? Staggering to think that something so blatantly obvious could slip by people who claim to know what they're doing.

It's not that they don't see it. They just don't think the one flaw is a big enough deal to drop it to an 80, when balanced against the condition of the rest of it. And that of course is pretty stupid.

So If I punch a hole myself, I would still get a good grade as long as the box is in good condition?

why are you all so worked up over a hole? don't some cases of figures come from the factory with those for the pegs?

I have to say I've never heard that but I could be wrong. At any rate, it's not like it's a horrible gouged hole with a knife orsomething. At least it's a clean hole!

As it's becoming harder and harder to find toys that are good quality in MISB (or graded), I'm noticing things are getting a little more lenient. Maybe that's just me.

I have never seen a boxed G1 toy with a peg hole.
