After the 86 movie G1 was done for me. Season 3 was boring & pointless & the toys took a major dip in quality. So I didn't pay attention to the last waves. I was just looking at a product catalog & was wondering why Nightbeat stands out from the rest. There are a bunch of Autobot cars listed, Sureshot,Crosshairs,Pointblank, Siren, Hosehead, Quickmix,Scoop,Landfill,Getaway,Slapdash & Joyride. But for some reason everybody goes apeshit over Nightbeat. How did that come about? I'm just curious.

Yeah, the Marvel comics went on quite awhile after the G1 cartoon ended. Plus he's one of Furman's favourite characters.

People really need to stop behaving like G1 was only a cartoon. "Why were Bludgeon and Nightbeat popular characters?" Because they were better developed than anyone in the cartoon!

Simon Furman read the tech specs, found him to be an interesting character, and ran with him. Same with Thunderwing and Bludgeon. They got some very good writing.

Nightbeat sucks, people want it because it's the closest thing to a Masterforce Minerva they'll ever own :D

    Comic Characterization

Here, Here! That goes for each and every Transformer in G1.

Hmmm... because Nightbeat reeks of awesomeness. He's the badass detective and has a great character design. What other Transformer could pull off those colors?

Man, this thread makes me want a Nightbeat figure. The G1 Headmaster costs too much. I'd like to get that TFCC Nightbeat but sucks that he doesn't have his ears. Anybody know how much that exclusive will run for?

Agreed. Thunderwing, Bludgeon and Nightbeat were brilliant. Especially Thunderwing.

    Wasn't she a Siren repaint?

Anyways I also am of the camp that Nightbeat was awesome. He's the one that came up with the idea that took down Thunderwing when he had control of the Matrix... Prime couldn't even do that.

No, Siren was redecoed as Go Shooter with a police deco, Nightbeat was redone as an ambulance, Minerva, and Hosehead was released unchanged as Cab.

Nightbeat is indeed quite awesome in the comics as is Bludgeon, Thunderwing, Fortress Maximus, Scorponok, Impactor, Grimlock, Ratchet, Galvatron, Blaster, and Goldbug/Bumblebee.

    I actualy think it's a fair question.

I've read the comics but never formed that much of an attachment with Nightbeat as the rest of fandom has. I like the visual nature of the toy and all the little guns turning into his antennas/horns but he's never struck me as a character I particularly like.

Nightbeat got popular the same way Columbo did, solving the mystery and catching the bad guys. Nightbeat figured out Thunderwing was possessed, harpooned him to a self-destructing shuttle, and threw him out the airlock faster than you can say Cylon. :D
