It wasn't destroyed, he just yanked it out of his own body. Does a spark core require a body to live?

In the movie verse there don't seem to be any "immortal spark" shenanigans. Destroy the brain, the guy is dead. Separate the spark from the body, dead. I imagine Optimus crushing the Fallen's spark was effectively some Temple of Doom-style overkill to make damn sure the bastard stayed down.

Sparks appear to be nothing more than the TF equivalent to a heart in the movieverse. Destroy the spark, and you kill the Transformer. Jetfire yanking out his spark would be like a guy ripping his own heart from his chest. And, as Anguirus said, Optimus crushing the Fallens spark was probably a way to keep him dead.

In Bayverse, sparks don't really mean much. The bots' deaths are actually more based off the ways humans can die, decapitation, impalement, shot. I think the reason for this would be so that it's more relatable. Like, so the audience knows if a decepticon's head is ripped apart, they'll be like "Okay, so he's dead for sure." Heck, even in ROTF and DOTM there was red fluid coming out of them, that resembled blood.

I believe he was mortally wounded from Scorponok. Maybe knowing he was going to die, he sacrificed his major parts (maybe that would have allowed him to live) so Prime could defeat the Fallen. Just a hypothesis.

Sparks in the movie are like a power source. There's no Unicron-trilogy-style "just sick it in a new body" crap.

I would say the spark can't survive out of the body. If you watch closely once Jetfire rips it out the pulse rate slows down to a stop pretty quickly and the bright glow dulls.
