Its no secret a lot of fans are upset about Gigatron....

I thought if BotCon is for the fanz, why dont they let the fans vote for the set and what molds to use?

    Your thoughts?

I think it'd be awesome, but they can only do it two ways:

Have a set list of molds per character to use, and risk fans not liking any of them as a choice.

    -OR-

Let the fans vote for the sets, characters, and molds which would be a clusterfuck of everyone voting for different things, and really having nothing conclusive to lean towards anything with.

There's not really much to argue one way or the other. Funpub only has the rights to use whatever mold Hastak says they can use and is not currently using. I imagine they get to choose from more than 6 molds, but I bet it is still pretty limited. Also, letting the fans vote on such a thing is opening a can of worms, and unless FP got their acts together and set this up more than a year or so in advance, they wouldn't have enough time to let the fans vote, then create the figures and the backstory to go with them.

So, I imagine they get the ok for 'X' number of molds, they have several ideas/options for possible boxsets in the "vault", and they pick the molds with the boxset theme that works best, but thats all assumption. :2c:

    True....

I think fans of every line would be happy though....im not a BW fan, but 2 of them made it to the " hall of fame" and then nothing....

They should try and see what happens....or send a survey to members....

That's what the end of Con surveys are for. If you have any ideas for molds, characters, factions, stories, etc. write it down and let them know!

From what Pete and Derrick Wyatt have said on Twitter, this is beyond fucking impossible. IIRC FunPub pitches dozens, perhaps hundreds, of ideas for sets to Hasbro, and most are rejected.

Even if the immense practical and logistics problems could be solved, you end up with a set with no coherence and no surprises.

Also, you will create bitter recriminations in the fan community. We had a hissy fit war over Erector, people. Erector.

Maybe just one out of the set then....

I wonder why Hasbro reject so many?

I wonder that myself. I presume that there is a great desire not to have BotCon step hard on future collector-oriented plans. And before people start yelling Thundercracker and Kup, I'm sure there were no plans for a 2011 Thundercracker in 2007, and Kup is "young Kup."

I'm sure there is a fairly intense internal vetting process on the FunPub side as well. When you can't please everyone, you might as well feel good making and selling more sets from year to year.

Because we'd change our minds later and then somehow blame FunPub for it. Also because they really have to work this out pretty far in advance.

Quoting this again to make sure the fact is known.

I'm sure FP have things in planning a year or two in advance, and the survey just helps them judge how fans feel and what they want.

Just wonder when they'll get round to the "Zombie" theme loads of people asked about in 2008. I wasn't one of them, on my surveys I always suggested new Wreckers.

I think it would be a complete logistical (not sure if that is the right term for it) mess, they would have to feed us the theme, probably some story in advance, clear a bunch of possible molds in advance, let us vote, etc. I really like the surprise, even if I am disapointed sometimes. Would I have preferred something like the Silverbolt mold, sure, but did I want something from the A/E/C era, nope. I may have only been back into Transformers long enough to see 4 botcon sets, but I have been pretty impressed with each of them (too bad I wasnt into buying pricey figures in 07 and 08). They have to reach and think outside the box sometimes, and it happens sometimes. I like the idea they came up with for Soundwave personally.

Edit: Forgot about 2009, I wasnt much into the Wings of Honor.

Damn it, now I want a Wreckers set.

I'm not big on fan votes deciding things, so I can't imagine being very enthusiastic about a fan vote deciding a Botcon figure or figures, except for the sadistic amusement factor of watching that nerdrage highway pileup on the forums here when the polling goes awry.

I'd be open to Hasbro using a fan vote for maybe one figure a year (vote one year, get figure the next year) or voting from a list of ideas so that way Hasbro knows they can get a redeco/remold out of something ahead of time. That could be slightly less chaotic and perhaps more productive, though I understand why Hasbro doesn't do it either.

I think it's simply because there is more to it than looking at what molds can be used and then putting new heads/colors to them.

There are many serious cost-issues, talking to HasTak about if they're going to make it a mainline toy, number of paint apps, etc.

Plus, I really don't think we'd get a good consensus out of the TF fandom.
