i have a 2 gig nano 1st gen...should i upgrade to a zune for 99 bucks?
Zunes are pretty good, my bro has one.
I would recommend a Creative Zen Vision: M or one of the Vision variants. Works great and plays any format I throw at.
How I feel about the Zune depends on price. The old 30GB ones are a steal right now at their about $99 going rate, especially since you can upgrade the firmware to the new versions. For that price I give an unqualified absolutely yes, buy it. Microsoft is not my favorite company in the world, but even I can recognize that they really listened to feedback from the old Zune software and made a lot of improvements, and credit where credit is due for allowing the owners of the old unit to upgrade.
At full price ($250) they are harder to recommend. I know most people here hate iPods, but at the same price as the comparable iPod the Zune has a lot of problems that make it hard to pick them over other alternatives. Those problems are easier to overlook when you're paying about 60% off the original retail price, not so much at full price.
yea i was planning on getting a 30 gig for 99...so i guess im going to go for it.
I've had my 30GB Zune for a while now, and I love it. The upgrade has been nice as well.
Yeah the 30gb is a steal. Buy it.
After the update you get Zune cards, kinda like the Xbox Live cards.
I got my Zune a few weeks ago and love it. Only thing I don't like about mine is the battery life isn't that long (though I got a refurbished one on woot.com)
BTW, when are the new Zunes being released?
They are out now. Get the firmware update if you haven't done so already.
Edit: I have one idea that I really really hope they do in a future release.
Flagging songs in FM Radio. You already receive the Artist and song title in FM. Make the firmware slap that in some xml, and when you sync, have the flagged songs search the marketplace for potential matches. I constantly listen to a radio station called the Current that plays underground, non-mainstream music. I would love to buy the albums of many of these songs if there was an easy way to track them down.
Turn the wireless off and you'll get a longer battery life. Unless you're in a heavy zune area or want to wirelessly sync it isn't that important.
