We've all seen the below video, but I was thinking last night that not only would a live action TF series be pretty cool - 'we have the technology' - the animation of this video would be pretty economical to render.
Sure, it retains a more box configuration look and the hands just 'appear' out of the arms, but its workable. I'd see it.
Plus, it'd be easy to incorporate combiners and even some mass shifting.

Devastator (used to be one that was better, with true G1 colours and smoother animation, can't find it, so this is the next best thing):

I guess I'm too much of a realist. I'd love to say that I'd be excited for the idea if it wasn't for the fact that at the current state of technology such a series would take more money than God to be done competently.

If a live action tv series was made it would be knight rider but with 5 cars and maybe every season we'd get 30 seconds of robot time.

the costs for the renders would be prohibitive and the one in that video isn't that great leave it as a animated show

I would LOVE a love action TV series, but the animation would be kinda costly, and theres no way they could come up with designs as cool as the Movie, or as sleek as TFA

That would be impossible. CGI technology is EXTREMELY expensive. by the time they make 5 episodes, the studio making them is going to go bankrupt.

although a cartoon with the live action characters would be awesome.

No. It's much to costly to be realistic in the slightest.

Oh, please no. It would be done on a crap budget and the robots would be the same caliber as Scooby-Doo is in that cruddy DTV movie Warner Bros. is trying to push.

This is what you're going to get: horrible actors in their mid 30's playing Sam & Mikaela (casted because they had the same hair color as the movie's actors) and tv-budget CGI that'll have the average TF fan declaring "Knock-off!" at every turn. In other words, "Transmorphers: The Series". With a Jar-Jar/Snarf/Scrappy Doo type sidekick thrown in for good measure. And to boost ratings, there will eventually be an episode with a vampire theme.

QFT! And who needs 5 times the Knight Rider?

While it'll be cool, it's too unrealistic to expect a good live-action show at current tech. Maybe at most a CG show, with lesser details.

    EXPLAIN HOW.

Holodrivers could make a live action TF series feasible form a budget p.o.v. but it would probably be kinda crappy.

Do it like they do with Kamen Rider and Ultraman: dress up actors in rubber Transformer suits. Do CG for the transformation sequences.

I think that while it would be neat the show would also be very expensive and that would limit the quality of the cgi, so if its going to be a serial tv series I would rather it be animated.

While I would love a well-done live action show, I agree with everyone who said it would be very costly. I think the best I can hope for now is an animated show along the lines of GI Joe: Resolute.

Wow, a lot of responses in such a short time! The main issue seems to be cost, of course it would be expensive, no doubt.
This would definitely mean it would be more like Knight Rider (hopefully not Team Knight Rider), with minimal robot time.
Still, we can all dream of a decent live action show at least. As someone mentioned, perhaps just a really good CGI show would suffice? Then something like the animation in the clips would be fine IMO.

BUT, no matter how popular it is it will suffer because of its cost and be cancelled - like many CG hit shows: 'Spider-man: New Animated Series' and 'Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles' for example.

    Um, no thanks.

It'd be like if they where to bring back some old 70's tv show today with young hot actors, something like Battlestar Galacti- uh, right...

Now a immortal man who changes bodies and rides through space in a phone booth, now that I can believe!! No cars turning into robots here!!

Maybe/hopefully in 10 years the idea will be feasible...
