in g1 or g2 does hot rod die
Hot rod becomes Rodimus
that's pretty much it
D@mn! I was feeling pretty good there for a moment or two.
lolz at backscatter
waits for ILD to come in thread and cries
Well there was that Marvel comics issue where Rodimus's corpse was tied between 2 buildings.
Feel the love in this room for Hotrod
Was he not dying in that UK marvel strip where he described all the evilest decepticons to his 'apprentice'? Either that or he was very ill. Or Hungover. Or something.
And that is a most distracting sig picture from Laquah
I will take that as a compliment.
Indeed it is a compliment, especially now I know why!
I have joined in myself, as is probably apparent.
Aww, everyone hates Hot Rod. I've always maintained that Hot Rod was cool, Rodimus Prime was a douche who deserved no love.
Kinda like how "Ice Ice Baby" was a good song, but it was done by Vanilla Ice.
cry about what? just because like 20 people on the board don't like Roddy? whatever all the more Rodimus toys for me then
Rodimus Prime was awesome!
for two minutes at the end of TF:TM
You know guys... you probably shouldn't hold a decent character design and idea responsible for the horrible writers of the 80's. Seriously. Both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime were great ideas with lots of character potential... the problem was all the Season Three writers thought it would be a good idea to make Rodimus Prime all emo and doubtful. Which was alright for, the first two or three times they did it... he was taking over for the greatest Autobot leader of all time so it's only right that he should have some doubts. Unfortunately, S3 never got over doing one of those types of episodes every other week.
The best G1 characterization of Rodimus Prime was in the later UK Marvel stories... well, until he had to fight against the corruption of Unicron from within, but even those stories were more interesting and had better characterization for him than any of the S3 eps ever did!
And, I'm with you ILD, more Rodimi (is that the correct plural?) for us if they don't want them!
The biggest problem with Rodimus' character was the fact that the show reset at the end of every episode. Rodimus never got a chance to grow like, say, anyone on Beast Wars b/c of the Magic Reset Button.
I blame syndication.
Spend more time here. And Less at the other place.
Yep. Unfortunately a lot of the fandom doesn't see it that way. Shame really, but different strokes and all.
Oh, I collect Hot Rodimi too. I like the figures, just not the way that character was written.
Okay so Hot Rod gets Optimus Prime killed. Whoops. But the real clincher for me was Rodimus abandoning the Autobots in Headmasters right after Cybertron was reduced to metallic asteroids. Also, in doing so, damning Arcee to take care of Daniel and Wheelie! I guess Roddy never forgave Arcee for hanging out with Springer.
In the UK comics, Rodimus became a better leader, but then I remember one "future story" in which the Autobots finally eliminate the Decepticons. (all but one Con posing as a Bot). So what does Rodimus do? Live with the Autobots in peace? Nope, he steps down again and war breaks out over who the new leader should be.
The animation and strory were far from the best, but I was so happy the days TROOP first aired. I even have Quint 01 standing by Sky Lynx now on the shelf to recall those fateful moments:
"It's true! Our Leader is Back!" in an almost whipered tone.
"Yes Sky Lynx, now no force in the universe can stop me!"
Then later Hot Rod complains the Matrix is empty when Optimus Prime gives it back to him. How so much in character.
BTW lovers to Hot Rod who pretty much OWNED TF:TM and Rodimus ruled at the end of that movie. It's not his fault the writers didn't know what to do with him after that.
Separate names with a comma.
