In the spotlight comic that was released this past November Hot Rod appeared in his pre-Earth alt mode and robot mode. Is it possible that a toy of his pre-Earth form will ever be made? They already have the designs.

Maybe we'll get one in the 6" Titanium line... that's honestly the only place I see that happening sense the line is geared more towards collectors and their doing WW characters shows they're interested in doing comic designs.

As for them engineering it... sure they could. The pre-earth design wasn't all that different from his normal design. A little more boxy though... and it didn't have any wheels, but it's probably doable. Especially if they sick Don on it...

Pre Earth mode? I've yet to see Hot Rod have an Earth based vehicle mode, in any media.

I always assumed that his car mode WAS supposed to be an Earth car, it was just what the designers in 1986 assumed Earth cars would look like in 2005. Same with Kup... though probably not Blurr and Arcee, because they hovered (right? Or am I remembering wrong?).

Anyhow, I could be wrong. If that's the case, though, it makes him kind of a funny time capsule. Although I think it's probably a good thing that modern cars don't have giant yellow boomerang-spoilers on them.

Hot Rod, Kup, Blurr, Arcee, and Springer did not have Earth based forms in G1.

From the one shot, I always think of Cybertron Swerve (The little red Autobot car), they look an aweful lot alike.

I'm pretty sure that was the intent at the time. Arcee did have wheels, though they weren't overly visible.

his new pre-earth mode is the ugliest alt mode I've seen in years, and I hope it's never produced as a toy.

Can't say I'm digging it. It's like the took everything cool from his normal alt mode, and made it look fat! Also, his exhaust pipes look like a set of horns you'd see on a Texas oil tycoon's stretch limo. I'm with Valkysas on this one. Save a toy mold for something that's a lot more interesting.

I always imagined that the Movie "new" cast, save Ultra Magnus, were all Cybertronian-form vehicles.

Totally. They didn't need earth modes since in the future earth cars and Cybertronian cars were no longer so different. At least that's how I looked at it back then, 'cept it's 07 now and my car isn't as cool looking as HotRod. Then again in 05 do they need to look like earth cars? I mean, they have a city on earth, I think the secret was out.

Either way I'll continue to view the movie guys as I had before, if for no other reason then that alt mode of HotRod's looks like ass, or at least something that might grow on an ass.

How different is his robot mode?

I assummed that brcause Ultra Magnus was in the Japanese TF show (Pre Movie) That he had an Earth Mode. Whereas Blurr, Hot Rod, Arcee and Kup were cybertronian alt modes. Who knows?!? because I sure don't!

If that's the design we're talking about, then god I hope they never make a toy of that. I'd hate to have something that ugly on my Hot Rod shelf. If they did something more like a War Within style, maybe. But that thing looks like some amusement park water ride car.
