Poltergiest was pretty creepy. But if you really like horror films, I suggest instead watching a Let's Play of Amnesia or Penumbra. Might tickle your fancy better.

Starting from 2000, you say. You don't know how much you're missing out on.

    Well, you have:

    Dracula (1931)
    Frankenstein (1931)
    The Invisible Man (1933)
    Bride of Frankenstein (1935)
    The Wolfman (1941)
The Creature from the Black Lagoon (1954)
    Revenge of the Creature (1955)
    Psycho (1960)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
    The Exorcist (1973)
    The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
    Jaws (1975)
    Halloween (1978)
    Dawn of the Dead (1978)
    Alien (1979)
    The Evil Dead (1981)
    The Thing (1982)
    Poltergeist (1982)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)
    Day of the Dead (1985)
    The Evil Dead 2 (1987)
    Child's Play (1988)
    Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992)
    Wes Craven's New Nightmare (1994)
    Scream (1996)

    Oh and there is probably...

After 2000? The only ones I can think of are:

    Shaun of the Dead (2004)
Let the Right One In (2008)
    Cloverfield (2008)
    Zombieland (2009)
    Let Me In (2010)
    Scream 4 (2011)

You're struggling post 2000. Contemporary mainstream releases are primarily aimed at female adolescents, and independent horror seems more concerned with gore than actual horror.

2 interesting films from the decade are Haute Tension / Switchblade Romance and Dumplings ... not strictly horror but they both manage to unnerve.

The Saw movies? I found them to be very intense and had trouble watching them. Slept with the light on afterwards ;)

So what? I had yet to be born when Halloween was in theatres, but that didn't stop me from giving it a go down the road.

Anyway. If you want good recent horror flicks, watch the recent Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. Very worthy successors to the originals. Wolf Creek is good, as well as the first Hostel film. See No Evil is lots of fun, too. Don't bother with any Saw films after the second one.

Zombieland is not an horror film.

It falls into the "Most awesome shit you'll ever watch" category of film [seriously, it's my fourth favorite movie, below The Lion King, Toy Story 3 and The Avengers]

I enjoy the "Shot on Shitteo" exploitation horror films that no one's heard of.

Like Zombie 90: Extreme Pestilence and Anthropophagous.
