Hi there, maybe I'm just seeing things, but I thought I'd share my observations. Does any of you know/remember the movie "Runaway Train" from 1985, starring Jon Voight? This movie has him as superdupertough criminal Manny that breaks free from a prison in Alaska, together with another prisoner, played by Eric Roberts. In the movie, Roberts calls Voight at least 50 times, by yelling "Hey Mannyyy". I hadn't seen this movie for 3 years now, but I just watched it and realized, that Bobby Bolivia does the same thing during the car-buying-scene with Sam...3 times I guess, he's calling one of his employees "Hey Mannyyy" with exactly the same intonation. And "Manny" isn't a too common name. As both movies have Jon Voight, I thought this may be a tribute to this masterpiece movie from 1985. But as I said: Maybe I'm just seeing things...what do you think? Greets, Alex
Could always have been him adlibbing it. The script may only have called for him to call an associate and he added the rest.
Yeah Bernie Mack definetly says "Mammie" I'm pretty sure it southern slang for mom but it might be exclusive to blacks.
Actually, he is saying 'Manny' AND 'Mammie' - 'Manny' is his assistant, whom he calls on to 'get his cousin outta that damn clown suit' among other things. Then he calls on his 'mammie' and twice after that he calls on 'Manny' again. Wouldn't have a clue if that's a homage or not.
There are alot of little throw backs in the movie. Mr. Paul Hitchens alerted me when watching it that the scene where Frenzy is behind the desk/wall in the Sector 7 basement, firing at Voight and the rest, the camera pans around him 360 as he shoots, which is a direct copy of the opening to Bad Boys 2. Also, the fatty kid in the beginning when Ratchet lands, says "This is way cooler than Armageddon". Both previous Bay movie shout outs. So the manny thing, i wouldnt have caught it, but it wouldnt suprise me.
Although one would think a John Voight homage like this would actually include John Voight in some way
he really likes the sound of "ammie" in words? and on the subject of movie homages, what about Small Soldiers, where Kevin Dunn (guy that plays Sam's dad) has a son who buys something seemingly harmless and it turns out to be a sentient robot who is embroiled in a war with other robots.
Ha ha thats what I thought too. On topic, I think you're thinking alittle too hard into this one. The only movies MB likes to homage are his own...cause everyone is ten times cooler than the last.
