I have been collecting variants for a while now. I have a few nice ones. But this one, I never even guessed I'd get one. Just arrived today.

The prime itself isn't too special, I have better. But the trailer.....

goes over 3 feet on across the hardwood floor!

Very nice! Ive been looking for one for a while on eBay, damn they're hard to come across. For some reason, I wasn't thinking they were metal sided, good to know.

wow, i've never even heard of this variant before.

I have the pre-rub Prime with metal plate trailer, but it has the regular launcher with pegged roller.

Any info on it? Was this the very first release of Prime? Or is it a foreign variant? Obviously pre-rub, so def an early release.

    Prime

Wow, that is awesome. I remember staring at the old TF catalogs for hours on end, and I can't remember which catalog it was, it may have been a department store catalog, but I could have sworn that Prime's base in the catalog looked as if it could shoot Roller much farther than my toy could. I even tried pulling the launch mechanism out farther, thinking that it would extend, but it didn't.

I also had the Optimus gun that he couldn't hold straight because both gun handles on his laser blaster were the same length, so my Optimus toy always had to hold the gun at an angle. It annoyed the heck out of me. I pushed the gun down to force him to hold it straight until the thing snapped in two. *sigh* The reissue and encore Optimus toys I have now have the much longer gun handle that allow him to hold his gun straight, thereby realizing a dream about twenty years in the making.

I know! It is the first one I've ever seen for sale, only been watching variants for about 3 years. Fred's Variant site has a specific page on the supercharged trailer(s) and has documented the sticker and metal plate version. It sounds like the belief is the stickered one was first and this is second as it transitioned to the grey roller metal plate trailer most know of.

It did come before the grey roller one. If you look at the 1984 catalog it pretty much looks like this one, except they have grey missiles in the tower.
