I had written this game off as just another Grand Theft Auto clone.

Which it is, but it might actually be good.

There is a demo out now. It's in stores; rumor is it will be on Live August 1st. I picked one up and have been playing for the last hour or so. I have to say I am waaaayyyy impressed. If I didn't know better, from what I've played so far, I could easily mistake this for next-gen GTA.

Better graphics, physics, good controls, good (professional) voice acting, lots of cars and weapons, you can create your own main character; I've had a lot of fun with the demo so far.

My only real concerns are story/replayability. Those are big parts of GTA.

Supposed to be out in August; here's hoping it will be make the date, and will turn out good. Anyone else tried the demo yet?

One of my friends is an animator for this game. He doesnt like it to be compared to GTA.

#1 reason I already like this game infinitely more than the GTA games, decent animations. It hurts my head when I see any Rockstar game in motion.

He may not, but it is inevitable.

Tell him they did a good job with this game, though.

Ditto. I love the GTA games, but can only handle about a half hour at a time. The motion blurrs gives me headaches and makes my eyes hurt.
Normally games don't bother me at all except for the constant piss breaks every 5 minutes :lol

Wussy! Go play a Carebear game if you can't handle a game that's so f*cking awesome that it makes the screen shake with it's pure awesomness!:throw

    :p

I'm liking the looks of this game, though. The no boats/bikes/aircraft thing is VERY disappointing, as is the limited number of cars, but I'm a Create-Your-Character whore and I love the mini-games they came up (Capture the 'Ho instead of Capture the Flag, AWESOME).

So why not ask your friend? I am curious as to what an actual worker on the game thinks it's like. Unless he can't divilge anythign beyond "don't cmpare it to GTA" because of an NDA.

Sad thing is, it will always be compared to GTA no matter. I mean I remember when the Hulk game was coming out, and that was compared to GTA (sandbox gameplay). Atleast it's not being compared to Superman64 :)

The sad thing is that GTA is the poorest example of a sandbox game.

played the demo for only a few minutes, but it seems exactly like GTA, but with better graphics, animation, and options. I made a big fat dude and it's funny as hell watching him try to run around and throw punches.

I love driving into people too, they fly all over the place. Funny as hell, and looks good too.

Still doubt I'll buy it though. GTA is fun in spurts, and the novelty has really worn off. Most of the missions aren't really fun anymore, and many times (especially in SA) are extremely tedious and annoying. I think it would be better if the story was a larger part of the games. I never feel like I'm accomplishing anything playing GTA. It feels like a bunch of mini games with crappy cutscenes at the beginning of most, and at the end of a few. No real flow. I appreciate all the free roaming and all that, but that gets old after awhile. And I always prefer more linear storytelling. I don't know why "linear" has become such a bad things in games, especially RPGs.

How extensive is the "Create a Character" feature? Should the average white guy be able to make a recognizable version of himself? And can you be a female?
