One issue with these shows is the sound. It can't be too loud or the screens shake.

For those that don't know, these are basically movie theater set ups with the projector behind the screen and the screen being a material liked sheer silk.

IOW not really a concert. I'd go to a Gorillaz one if they didn't stop. It still looks entertaining. I'd also like to be served up a game of Halo 3-d on one of these bad boys.

You do realize you're making fun of geeks and such on a TF collector's site, right?

Agreed. As much as I love the idea of holographical musicians playing, this is...just creepy, in my opinion.

:lol  Probably not too long from now. Oh Japan, you're weird as shit, but dammit, we love you for it. :p

I don't have much to add other than to say Japan always finds a way to keep me in love with them. Holograms, robots, vending machines...

I like the glow stick leeks. I think it's amazing what we can do with technology nowadays. I'm not much into the vocaloid stuff, but that song is freaking catchy. But they need a better choreographer for her dance moves :lol

No, they're not. They aren't projections of any kind. They're just green screened into the show.

Pretty much. The cameras filming the person switch depending on what angle the studio cameras are filming a spot on the floor from.

They certainly aren't holograms. The people in the studio see absolutely nothing. They're just looking at, and talking at, a spot on the floor where the "projection" is being added to the footage that the viewers see.

This isnt a hologram either. It is, as said before in the thread, just a projection on a screen. The advantage it has over what CNN did though, is the people in the same room with the image can see it.

Then we can add in the whole "dude, that's a computer singing" factor, and yeah, it's cool. Might not like the music, but still. it's cool.

I'm getting figma Luka because of this.

    Thanks thread starter. D:

But really, I like the tech and use of it. :3 Didn't like that Gorillaz stuff, even if they did it first.

Looks good, and good use of the technology seeing as Miku Hatsune is the equivalent of a singing Microsoft Sam.

Though I kinda don't get the whole point of a live Miku Hatsune concert considering the fact that she's, well, a computer program and can't exactly do "Live." I mean, yeah, there are people playing the instruments live, but nobody's paying them any mind.

Hearing the crowd sing along was cool though. I love it when that happens at concerts and it doesn't totally sound like ass. :D

ps Daft Punk does the best concerts ever. deal w/ it

pss Figmas aren't as good as everyone says they are and the vocaloid ones are horrendously overpriced for what you get.

We're all geeks. Deny it if you will, but we like toys aimed at children and collect said toys for children. We also read comic books and watch cartoons. Try and boast your fantastic social life, your girlfriend/wife, your financial achievements.. we are all geeks.

I think it's silly when us Transformer geeks call out otaku for being such geeks/losers. It's high-larious.

It's a commonly known fact that all fans of Japanese works are pedophile shut-ins that listen to J-Pop constantly and that Transformers fans are ripped, masculine womanizers that wear inside-out pink shirts and baseball caps tilted slightly to the left. Transformers fans wear sunglasses at daytime, Otaku wear panties on their heads and carry around huggable pillows of their favorite anime characters.

That is not opinion, that is not girl-talk, that is straight-up stone-cold FACT.

Whatever. Believe what you want to, I was not putting down anyone. You can perceive people as geeks based on their interest all you want. But I see them as people. And the point I was making was that most of the people that go to these Vocaloid concerts are guys.

What I think Waverider is getting at is: You can be into toys and not be a creepy or an awkward social inept. We've been through this. I'll continue to stare down my nose at people who cross the line of what is normally socially acceptable (not right, but acceptable... not an anime girls panty shot as she bends over with a giggly 'ooopps! look at my twat!' look). I'll continue to endeavor to be a better rounded person, regardless of my interests.

Someone wants to marry a DS Character, beat off to hentai tentacle rape, only find things in common with other 'geeks', and not be able to function within reason with communication and self-presentation? I'm not going to coddle anyone and say it's well-adjusted behavior because I have a handful of toys on a shelf in my closet.

This isn't really a black and white thing. It's not high school where the jocks give swirlys, stoners have limited scientific knowledge which stop at identifying types of weed, and the dorks are all forced to sit at the loser table somewhere between the girl who looks like she swallowed the wedding cake whole and guy who wears clothing that he LARPs in. WE are not a click. We're (many of us anyway) are functional members of society who have to face the real world of making first and lasting impressions. Displaying TFs in our houses and fiddling with them in our offices doesn't put us in the same standing as everyone else who shows an interest in that one very minor aspect of life.

In other words, "All anime is tentacle rape and panty shots, and that means that Transformers is socially acceptable."

I don't know if that's what you were going for, but that's what I gathered.

No, you missed the point and compensated by putting words in my mouth.

I like Anime. I watch a moderate share from time to time. It's fine. But there are people who can enjoy something (doesn't have to be anime... fucking basket weaving or eating cake if you'd like) and then there are people who have an odd amount of interest in it. Collect figures, buy DVDs, and talk about it with like-minded people if you want. But what I'm saying is that people shed an unhealthy amount of their actual life to live within something artificial. It's called obsession and it's never healthy.

My whole point is DeceptiKitty implies that we're all geeks, therefore we shouldn't look upon any other geek in a negative light. I was merely attempting to illustrate a huge difference. I probably failed in making the point though and totally ripped a tl;dr out of my ass.

I'll admit it, I like Vocaloids, I even got a Figma Rin Kagamine hanging out with my Shinkis. And I also thought it was cool on how much depth was simulated with the "hologram" of Miku, even if it was just a projection. But the use of this "hologram" technology can be explored even more. While for now the technology is limited to just Vocaloids aparently, the applications for this are huge.

Think about it; for those who don't know that it's a hologram (or if the mesh screen isn't so easily made obvious with all the flashing lights, like in the concert), there could be near-physical representations of famous people in history. Social Studies would be totally bad ass if Abraham Lincoln could just walk right into the room and start giving the Gettysburg address in person as opposed to having to just read it from a book.

There are people who can collect toys and are just as creepy as some of the anime fans I've encountered. Thing is, you seem to be giving off the idea that being a geek is a bad thing. You like to play with toys and you are a geek. You have a girlfriend, you have twenty tight-shirted bros that you totally went drinking with last night bro, you have kids, you like to read 500+ page novels, and you are a geek that likes to play with toys. There are levels, yes, but you're still a geek. Enjoying listening to Miku Hatsune and wishing you could go to one of her concerts is no different than wanting to go to Botcon or paying 25 dollars on a Transformers website.

You've got to realize that looking down upon another geek and using words like "geek" to describe them is incredibly hypocritical.

I'll say it right now, I'm an otaku. I love anime, I love manga, I love games, I think japanese music has a lot more feeling then most american stuff we currently get, I collect a bunch of stuff, go out of my way for special editions of things, etc.

BUT I'm not a socially awkward creep who'd rather have a fictional character as a mate instead of a real person. Most people think anime fans are weirdos because all they know if it is usually "tentacle rape" or "really young girls with big eyes" or socially ******ed guys who can only get with a fictional girl because he's too unattractive to get a real girl. Truth is anime is a popular form of animation that does offers more then just "tentacle porn", both guys and girls love it and things like vocaloid helped revolutionize the music industry in Japan. It pisses me off when I see people automatically berate things like this because they only know of it through stereotypes and such.

If you think stuff like this is creepy or sad while going into a toy store and scrounging through the action figure aisle in your mid to late 20s looking for a transforming toy you want is perfectly fine and is anything but geeky, then you're 100% blind. Anime fans a geeks. Transformers fans are geeks. If you have a problem with someone stating that then it's obvious that you aren't comfortable with others knowing of your hobby.

Phew.....sorry for that. I needed to rant....
