    **EDIT** DEC 2012

So I've got my PRID Bulkhead now, and I've already started work on converting him into Hoist. There are things I like about each mold, but for some reason (perhaps rarity and cost) I'm inclined to go with the PRID version for Hoist. I haven't added his hook set-up yet, or figured out the best way to carve space for his head for transformation, but like the way his existing arms can easily be converted into Hoist arms with minimal effort.

One complaint though is the way his shoulders are so much lower in the PRID version (low shoulders are also an issue with Dreadwing)... which I think takes him a bit further away from G1 Hoist's proportions... but we'll see. Comments welcome as always!

So within 15 minutes of getting my First Edition Bulkhead out of his elegant MP-style packaging, I was already mapping out how to remodel him into Hoist. The bot mode can be made to match G1 Hoist in surprising ways. The fact that he's already green and sort of chubby helped a lot... I've always sort of seen Hoist as the ummm... hefty type.

These pics here are just a bit of fun... I haven't made any permanent alterations to the figure, but I was curious what could be done to make him "work" as a totally different character (one that has been absent from the Classics shelf for way too long!). Most of these additions should be able to integrate with his transformation (more or less).

However there are TWO major issues with this concept:
    1) this is a damn hard figure to lay hands on... do I want to sacrifice my only one?
    2) No matter what I do to the robot mode, is it possible (or easy at least) to make his alt-mode into a credible tow truck?

Anyway, on with the pics! :)

Best of friends... or the love that dare not speak its name? ;)

Pretty good in scale with other "classics" style bots...

Hanging with a bad crowd. Incriminating photo! Smash his camera!

i think its works good! I'd like to see it done and a Ironhide or Rachect would probably look good too! And trailbreaker maybe too!

Trailbreaker is another Autobot I see as being "fat" (small wonder, since he comes from the same mold). He would probably be even easier, since he doesn't need to integrate any towing apparatus... you'd just need to find the right head to suit the bodily proportions, and paint everything black.

Ratchet and Ironhide might feel a little bloated from this mold though. Too many energon goodies! :)

    And the Bulkhead fanboys wept.
Me being one of them... especially since I don't have him.

But yeah, really cool concept. Keep going!

Neat idea, although i think the green should be lighter...

Maybe instead of modding this particular Bulkhead, you dont wait to see the upcoming RiD Voyager?

I think it works really well. Personally I'd wait and try to lay hands on a second Bulkhead before to tear this one up.

Agreed on the arms thing. That why I said keep at it. This will work gloriously... once you get a spare Bulky.
