I think everyone here knows about BBTS's "layaway" feature that is fairly unique to it's store (at least, I haven't seen it anywhere else...), called Pile of Loot.

Now, HLJ doesn't have anything like that... yet.

A day or so ago, I sent out a tweet to their new Twitter account, @hobbylink.

Now, despite what you all think about Twitter, it's fairly good for a news source, since it can quickly generate news in a blink of an eye.

About an hour or so ago, I got a reply! Here's the link:

    Twitter / HobbyLink Japan: @MikeMerriamORG As a matte ...

Now, considering all the upgrades that have been going on with their shop, this could possible further cement them with lots of customers.

... Though, I wish they could have the prices Amiami have...

    Anyways, sound off peeps!

The only difference is that HLJ charges you the actual retail price for stuff :lol .

I was going to mention this, BBTS likes to charge like up to twice the price for things.

The only problem is that most of the time you lose a lot of your savings in shipping.

Not to mention it usually takes them much, much, longer to get stuff like Figuarts in.

I never knew that BBTS does lay-a-way, I thought the Pile of Loot is just a way to save on shipping, you still have to pay for the item when it comes in. Lay-a-way means that you pay off the item in installments no?

AmiAmi, HLJ, and Overdrive are my three go-tos as far as Japanese online stores go.

BBTS's shipping rates are based on actual shipping rates. What item weighs less than a pound, once it's packed and in a shipping box? Priority mail for a 1 pound, 1 ounce package is around $8. What online specialty toy store has cheaper shipping rates? Pile of Loot is a great way to turn small orders into large orders to save.

Yep, BBTS sells retail toys, so marked up 50%, some parked up 500%, but many marked up 10% and many eventually go on clearance or on their frequent 10, 15, 20% off sales.

But BBTS is not my source for retail toys. BBTS also sells "import"/"specialty" toys that Wal-mart etc. do not sell.

Well, I'm just saying, HLJ seems like it's going to have a specialty plan for buying goods, and I hope that it's somewhat similar to what BBTS is doing.

Buy your items, get them stored away in a warehouse, buy more items, store them with your other items, repeat. Then when you feel it's okay, you get the items shipped all at once, and you get the best toy day EVER. xD

AmiAmi sort of does that right now, but it's on a month to month basis

As much as I love their prices, Amiami's system is terrible. There seems to be no way of check what you've got on order/pre-ordered with them.

That is a bit of a downside. Though, you can follow it fairly well if you save the emails.

Are the retail prices that get marked up 50% on toys that are exclusive to certain stores like Wal-mart? I wouldn't expect BBTS to go and buy walmart exclusives and then sell it at a loss. You have to factor in the price they paid+the time they need to spend to go out and purchase them.

I've noticed that they don't always have the best prices regardless of that though, but on certain things they are better. For example, I bought the Hot toys Joker DX from them and I have the batman DX on order from them and I can't find a better price when you factor in shipping.

Their hot toys Iron Man figures are cheaper at cornerstone comics though, even factoring in taxes.

BBTS's main issue is that they keep track of a toy's demand and will often adjust their prices accordingly. Thus you get things like $60 Animated Wreck-Gar while Atomic Lugnut from the same wave is available at about retail price.

I'd love to see hlj go with a Pile of Loot option, it would save a lot on shipping.
