Michael Bay and co. are putting alot of emphasis on trying to make the movie TFs so realistic and also believable as aliens -
to the point that many of the robot design stylings (claws, strange multi-spiked feet, bizarre non-humanoid faces) have been employed.

Yet, it seems strange that an alien robot would be named "Bumblebee".

"Bumblebee" of all names seems so strikingly non-alien. Seems strangely contradictory that they would stick with that name just for G1 and nostalgia's sake, yet forgo the robot body and face design styles that have characterized the brand for 20+ years.

    just a late night thought...

That's what I'm thinking. On a side note, my gf named her new Saturn Chromia and my Chevy Moonracer.

It's explained in the movie...along with the reason TFs speak perfect english.

...and, no, Cybertronian isn't remarkably similar to english...

it's explained in the script, but i won't spoil anything..

also think why would Ratchet, Ironhide, and Jazz have the names they have? those arent alien at all

and Optimus Prime sounds more Latin than alien

but like i said, there's an explanation in the script that i accept, kinda find it to be a good one too

    Mild spoilers:

The Transformers give themselves names roughly based off an english translation of their personalities. Spike does not name any of them. Bumblebee's name comes from a fairly famous saying. If you haven't figured it out yet from this thread, then, uh, you gotta be pretty thick.

really. despite the fact that bumble bees are extremely docile, and will hardly ever sting you, especially if you are a male bumblebee in which case you dont even have a sting at all?

i seriously doubt m******* a** was talking about a bumblebee when he said that about himself

Well it's not like we have a wide variety of Bees to choose from

Would you prefer that Bumblebee choose the name HoneyBee/AfricanBee?

Sorry,my bad Twin Twist.I edited my post

I type how I speak & sometimes I speak so casually that I don't realize when I spoil a cruticial point in a movie/TV show

If you didn't bring that to my attention I wouldn't have noticed:thumb

Okay, seriously; WHY DO YOU THINK THE GUY WHO YOU QUOTED STARRED IT OUT?

Did you read the rest of the thread noticing, or rather failing to, that people danced around the issue?

Seriously, engage brain, I'm getting tired of finding spoilers without warnings attached. I would like to enter the theater with some semblance of possible surprise still intact, but it seems everyone else on the entire internet wants the exact opposite.

***DO NOT READ THIS POST IF YOU DON'T WANT TO BE SPOILED***

You are reading into this WAY too much, it's exactly what he meant by "sting like a bee" it's a saying, like poetry or a nursery rhyme.

Butterflies don't float either, he meant that he was graceful, but would knock the shit out of you, that's all he meant, I'm sure he wasn't giving much thought to the "true nature" of the male bumblebee, most people don't, to the general public, bee=getting stung.

appreciate the effort to avoid spoilers! I didn't think the story behind the name "bumblebee" would be in the script, but the fact that it is is speaks to the hard work that the film developers are putting into communicating realism.

    nice touch. And thanks fellas.
