Well I'm glad I wasn't the only one who watched/noticed this one. And people couldn't imagine why I called the AFA graders "unqualified".

if the guy who bought that cracks open the case, breaks the seal, transforms it and puts it on his monitor, he'd be my hero for life. :)

Both Ironhides were graded in 2004. The AFA was really on the ball.

Is there a thread somewhere here where someone can go to get a quick education on discerning between g1 and KO?

    I think i need it :)

There is a stickied thread in the Toyark. But you can keep an eye on the eBay forum as well. MR, myself and a few others hawk the tools trying to pass KO's on eBay quite often.

These two have painfully obvois stickers with Chinese symbols, but others aren't so obvious. They may only be missing a letter in one word on the back of the card, or there could be a minor paint application error. You'll get a quick education if you hang around here often enough.

In the case of these Ironhides - if you look carefully at the upper right corner of the box flap, you'll see chinese characters in white - these are the "Hong Kong Specials" aka KOs

no, not KO's and not nesessarily reissues, kinda in betweens. but definately no KO's. Not enough info on them, and there is too much debate to make a sound descision. I have never myself had one in my hands and tested the quality, but some have said the quality is less than an original, others have said its on par. these are different than the KO's being offered right now on ebay (ie. optimus, swoop, cassettes, etc). the reason being is that there have been a wide spectrum of different figures being or have been released. I just call them Hong Kong Specials. also the boxes are different than the originals, having different textures, and not being cut right with imperfections. Not all of them, but alot.

IMO if it's not Takara and/or Hasbro along with an affiliate (i.e. GIG for Italy), it's a KO. G1 Tf's from Italy had the Hasbro or Takara logo along with a GIG logo on the box. A couple of east asian characters in a wierd spot doesn't seem official at all.

Here's an example of the Italian Transformers release through GIG: http://www.geocities.com/futuristgroup/vitaly.html

    My personal opinion of course.

Reeds, this isn't a knockoff. It's a toy that Hasbro made around 1990 for the Chinese market.
