    its a hong kong release. it's official, but it came out long after it did in the US and Japan.

    Is it licensed by Takara/Hasbro? Previous threads I've seen regarding these seem a bit more forgiving than, say, KO Prime

    These are official toys made by Hasbro specifically for the Chinese market in the early 1990's. Some of these releases were also imported into Korea at the same time via Young Toys, the company currently releasing Alternators in Korea. "Hong Kong Special" is a misnomer, since these were out everywhere in China, not just Hong Kong.

    They're real. Not knockoffs.

    hong kong specials is what I call them to differentiate from the recent china
    KO's. it seems to have caught on a bit.
