An article was posted on the site readwriteweb.com titled "Facebook Wants to be Your One True Login" and discussed Facebook's plans for a universal login for other sites.

Apparently, quite a few folks type "Facebook login" into the search field in Google rather than using the address bar to type the site's name directly. This article became the one of the top hits for "Facebook login" and some thought that this article was their new Facebook homepage. The flood of posts by confused, yet irritated, Facebook users commenced.

    Some gems:

EDIT: Apparently this isn't unique to this site. Another site, khabrein.info, has a similar article up with the same confused comments. How do these folks even know how to find Google?

I am astounded by the number of people in my office who think that the only way to get to a website is to go through Google search first.

"Well how else am I going to remember where it is? I can't remember all those website names!"
    "You could always bookmark them..."
"I really don't see how that's going to help at all; you have to search for it, you can't just go there!"

I just smile politely and walk away.

Sometimes...the stereotypes about a certain group of people are all too true.

The staggering inability of many of those posters to frame or type a coherent thought doesn't help.

The best part, to me? Bottom of the page:

    There's a link, right there.

Sometimes I think I'm being a little arrogant when I feel that I am so much more intelligent than a great many people crawling over the surface of the world. Then I see things like this and realize that perhaps I am not being arrogant enough.

Such a bunch of indignant idiots. That's just priceless. (Though to be fair, I can understand older people having a hard time getting up to speed with the superhighway).

As an aside, I used to wonder how people can fall for spam and phishing scams. If I was a spamster, I'd start with every name on that comment list.

Everyday at work, when I take in a tech support call, I tell people to type in the address bar the website I need to direct them to. They instead google it and I get back some awkward results.

If the customer is being extremely difficult, Ill just google the address myself and tell them to click (the number of links) down. Even then they would still get it wrong.

Typically I just mute myself and blert out "Fucking google generation!"

My mom still believes that AOL is the Internet. Not just the browser but everything that you get on the AOL interface - that's the 'net.

She has no clue with IE or a browser is, what search engines are, or how to use normal email. If she can't get to it on AOL, it's not something she needs (her quote).

This is why I left IT long ago.

You know what's worse than this, though? Trying to get people to understand file management. Nobody in my family can grasp saving to locations, save vs. save-as, etc...

I've been there alright. Somehow people impatiently want a series of instructions to do something specific, where if they would just take the time to grasp the basic underlying concepts, they could figure the rest out themselves.

Most of my 'expertise' consists of understanding the concept of overlapping windows, and being willing to right-click and look through menus for something that sounds like it could work.

The medieval helpdesk comes to mind. An oldie, but a goodie.

People just should not buy computers and expect them to work like they think, without learning how they work.
