To say the least, HFTD Sunspot is a direct repaint of ROTF Skystalker. He comes in the standard scount-class packaging for the Hunt for the Decepticons line:

Not to be confused with a close namesake, this guy is "Sunspot" and not Sunstorm nor is he Sunstreaker :D
    [IMG]
I guess his bio explains his colors -- he must have forgotten what faction he's supposed to be on and what kind of jet his alt mode is supposed to be for....

Alt mode is nice and solid -- just like ROTF Skystalker, HFTD Sunspot only has front-mounted landing gear.

The colors make you want to pick up some creamy dessert with caramel swirls but it actually makes the subtle details of the mold stand out.

Sunspot also has a jet-mode battle mode which is basically his mold's take on a GERWALK mode.

Robot mode manages to stay on his feet despite the spring-loaded ankles.

If there's something I've noticed about this particular Sunspot, it's that his joints are a little more loose than my other 2 ROTF Skystalkers.
I guess there's truth to the saying that the second time won't be as tight as the first one.

The way the head is detailed makes the mono-eye design stand out even more.

The weapons are the same -- the scythes have a peg and a clip. You can either clip a scythe on the forearm or have it peg into a hand.

As can be seen below, the forearm can also accommodate other clip-system weapons. In this case, I had Breacher's weapon in arms reach.

Well, aside from looking like some dessert pastry and not being as tight in the joints as the first mold, Sunspot has all the pro's and con's of the original Skystalker mold. The colors help bring out the lines and details which are otherwise obscured by the darker Skystalker but it's the same colors which make me crave for custard cake while doing this write up.

Yes, he'll make a good replacement for those who weren't able to get Skystalker.

Any chance of a picture of him combined with Mindwipe? Since I missed Skystalker, this will have to be my option for combining the 2. Now I'm just wondering how BAD the combo looks with these new colors.

His colors kinda blend in with his own packaging, don't they?

I really like this mold, but the blandness of Skystalker's typical stealth paint job turned me away. This is dynamic and eye-catching, and the mold's gerwalk mode immediately makes me think of the bot as a stand-in for Laserbeak and Buzzsaw for the movie-cons. I can already picture one perched on Leader Megs or Screamer's arm.

Found it at TRU on Sunday, hesitated on the grounds that I hadn't seen what Strafe's coloration would look like yet (and I sure as hell wasn't going to connect him with Mindwipe), but lo and behold, images surfaced that day. Not a perfect match, but a nicely coordinated effort. Picked Sunspot up today. :)

It's funny, with all the people going "Why you connect Sunspot to Strafe!? One is Autobot and other Decepticon!" Another peek at Sunspot's bio gives me the answer: He probably just spaced out and forgot he was a Decepticon for a while. :)

FINALLY a bio that kind of fits ME! :p

I'm not so sure on his color scheme, or why he couldn't have been a 'bot to connect with Strafe. But, I like the mold and have been wanting to get it for quite awhile now.

Those colors are... different. Not really good, but not horrible either. If I see it at retail I may get it.
Makes me glad I have a small squadron of Skystalkers, though.

Reading the bio, I kind of feel sorry for the guy, most of the decepticons are pretty sympathetic at the moment with the autobots out to destroy them when they just want to stay alive.

That's a common theme with HFTD, though. I felt sorry for Demolishor and Sideways in the movie, too.

Finally found Sunspot, and find it very charming in an indefinable way. The vehicle mode in those colors remind me of one of those big white moths ... or a fried egg.

It's like the movie verse is slowly changing into Shattered Glass lol

Picked him up since I could never find a Skystalker. Sweet little fig.
Kind os a step up from the bi plane guy.
Like how you can use his wings for a wingpack in robot mode.

i am still saddened that i lost out on Skystalker.
but i am happy that i got Sunspot

I really wish they'd keep this mold alive, much like they whored out that Knockout, lol. to see more variations of paint apps would rock. (hey, can we get a Yellow and Black, or something similar to a Macross-esque theme?)

anyway, i may get one more Sunspot for the "guardian mode" to display.

but i really need Skystalker to have with my Mindwipe. i keep seeing MW as Batman, and Skystalker as like a batarang drone.
that's just cool beans, to me.

Respectfully, I personally couldn't disagree more. I actually only bought Sunspot to repaint him to match Skystalker. Everything about this toy that's cool Skystalker has + I enjoy Skystalker's stealth bomber deco much more. Mainly, white is VERY easy to paint :)

I love him. I really liked Skystalker anyway so the mold is very strong in my mind but for some reason even though I don't think the color scheme here particularly matches the alt-mode I can't help but like it. Maybe its because every time I look at him I get hungry for an orange dreamcicle.

You'd have thought they would have given him a colour scheme closer to the forthcoming Strafe repaint of Mindwipe.

That yellow and white ain't a good look. Someone said 'fried egg' and I can't disagree with that! :lol
