I just repainted the Sidearm Sideswipe in the ROTF colors. Much better mold than the original but Hasbro threw in some red for no reason. Instead of getting the more accurate Takara version, I just repainted mine instead.

You know, he was pretty easy. He's just silver. I had reference pics but they were all silver. :)

Had to paint the windows black because I didn't want the red windows.

    Very, very nice repaint!

Not having this figure, I'm wondering, could it have been possible to strip the red paint using alcohol instead of repainting the whole thing? Not sure the alcohol would get all the red paint out though..

Excellent job man! Curious, why is it a better mold then the previous one? I haven't seen this one in person yet.

You ever consider a Silverstreak (classics) repaint? Just thinking out loud man :D

Trouble with that is that you'd still have to paint the whole thing anyway. You don't think the base plastic's that shiny silver, do you? :p

I have my Sideswipe and my Blurr side by side. You can see the difference. For one thing, the feet are better.

Although you can't really see Blurr's feet in that pic, since you've got them backwards. Those things at the front are his heels... :p

I red sharpied the taillights on mine, and flubbed it a few times, but a Q-tip and some 70% isopropyl alcohol cleaned it right up without damaging the silver. I am a bit nervous to try it on the hood paint, though.

Depending on what Hasbro did with the windows, they may just be clear plastic painted with clear red paint. Much like the original RotF sideswipe's windows are painted clear blue. That paint would probably come right off with some alcohol or acetone.

Oh yea, to get that really nice shine, you gotta use paint (and having it done by Solrac isn't a bad idea either :D ). But for someone lazy like me, just stripping paint would be easier that repainting the whole thing hehe.

You can strip the paint, but the silver paint will go with it. The base plastic is the dark metallic gray plastic that you see on the inside of his doors.

You are right sir!! As stated above the base plastic is the dark gray on the insides of the doors :)

DON'T use acetone!! it'll eat the plastic man, lol. And unfortunately they were jerks and molded the windows in the clear red, not painted them in a red color... Trust me.. I tried removing the color :redface2:

ON SUBJECT FROM ME, This looks really good man. I cant wait till mine is done and posted :D  Come to think of it, I believe I only need to do a couple more things and snap some picys :)

Ahh yes. Indeed, if the silver on the car is actually paint, stripping the red with alcohol will definitely mess the silver paint as well. Good call. From pictures, I thought the silver was actually the color of the plastic.

As for the windows, it's too bad they're molded in clear red instead of being painted. There goes the possibility of removing that color. Painting them is the better idea in this case.

As for removing the paint with acetone, it's all about the quantity. I've done it not too long ago when removing the clear paint from Terradive's cockpit. It works. Just gotta be real careful. Alcohol also works. But since it's clear plastic, again, careful of the quantity you use. Too much acetone will indeed eat/mess up the plastic real bad :)
