Just did this one for myself. Love this mold, HATE those stupid "flames." Sanded, cleaned, krylon fusion (gloss and flat) black basecoat. Rustoleum "bright silver" for the car bits, drybrushed with testors enamel steel and silver chrome. Gold, red, orange, dark red, and silver highlights. Robot parts have a couple coats of Testors Dull Cote lacquer, while the car parts are cleared with Future (I was going to use Gloss Cote lacquer, but wasn't sure how it would react with the acrylic on the windshield.) Also added a Kansas license plate decal on the rear. Pretty happy with how it turned out. C&C welcome!

I actually like the default paintscheme but this repaint does look sweet.

Small crit would be the windshields : they look a bit sketchy / scratchy...

Yeah, I brushed on the flat clear for the windshields, and apparently I didnt thin it down enough. Lesson learned!

After seeing this i'm going to have to rethink my decision not to get this figure. Your repaint has brought out all of the retooling that has been added to this. Great work on this!! Now all I have to do is find one !!!

By retooling, you mean new tooling, right? Because this figure is an entirely separate entity from the original toy. They share absolutely nothing in common, besides being based on the same character.

I do wish there was a way to mod the figure so that the shoulders can compress into the torso, though. His shoulders should be under the wheel wells. Them sticking out so far makes his head look really tiny.

Otherwise, it's a great mold. I've got the Takara version on the way for a more accurate paint job, but it still needs the tail lights painted.

And I've got an idea for his swords, but it'll take a bit of work.

Great job picking out the details, though. That's the one problem I have with Sideswipe's design overall: it's really bland, colour-wise. So the red accents are quite nice, in this case.

By the way, if you twist the feet around 180 degrees, you can fold the front "toe" in, and give him his proper wheel feet. Since the figure's more back-heavy than front, he still stands stably.

Fantastic work! I agree with the comment on the windows. Maybe painting black on the inside (they are translucent, right?) would've been better as far as preserving the smooth exterior surface.

Cool, glad to see it looks even better with an accurate paint job. I'm in the process of painting mine with the real auto color :)  Looks good formula93!!
