Because then the machine guns won't shoot the propellers off? Or so the propellers won't chop up the bullets to be utterly useless? Or both? I mean, what would you EXPECT to happen if you fired bullets straight into giant propellers? Although accurate in colors, Highbrow is FAR from being an accurate P-38. Aside from the absolutely useless placement of the machine guns, the toy's cockpit in alt. mode litterally can NOT see over the front of the plane unless the entire thing flew straight while the body was at some weird angle to the ground, plus as you can see in the picture of a real P-38 the cockpit does NOT sit in the middle of the "square" formed from the rear portion of the plane. His side wings are also far too small and the "nose" of the plane is all wrong on the toy.
Meh, it's alright but nothing special. A nice paint job and a different head sculpt might get me to buy the mold again though.
That's about how I feel. He's a pretty forgettable toy... by no means awful, but also nothing special either. I'd be curious about what a new deco and/or head would do for him, but I doubt it would be enough to get me to buy another version. Kind of a pity - the transformation was pretty neat.
Many WW2 era planes actually had machine guns shooting through their propellers. There was sync mechanism allows it. You're absolutely right about the cockpit placement though.
He does have a retool coming, although it's Asia-exclusive: I have and adore Highbrow, but I won't buy any repaints. His charm is how distinct he is (in both modes, to boot); getting multiples just takes away from that.
The only reason I passed on him was because of his head sculpt. I don't know why, I just can't stand it.
I never saw him in stores, but I thought he looked kind of cool. Even though it wouldn't be historically accurate, I'd like a repaint like this: To go with it, I'd like a repaint of RTS Lugnut like this:
He is getting a repaint in Asia as "Power Dive", and he also has a brand new head. Power Dive was green with some mauve, so I guess that will be the colors the repaint uses too!
