Battle Blades Optimus Prime - he is pure win!! I'll try not to gush too much but this is my fave figure so far this year along with Drift and the Hasbro MP Grimmy.

First off there is a lot of detail for a voyager sized figure, they really seem to have shrunk the leader class and given him a more straight forward chest transformation, he also has the added joy of the Buster type guns which although lack detail are a nice added extra for an already wicked fig.

As always there are some downsides to all toys and in fairness I'll highlight what I can see wrong with Prime

    1) Battle Blades arent always a snug fit when retracted due to the arm kibble and transformation
    2) The hip articulation can be somewhat limited when posing to the side due to the rear wheel covers postioning when in bot mode

Thats about it really, I would score Prime 9/10 on a purely gushing basis but with the rose tinted spec's off I would score him 7.5 - 8/10

    Cheers for looking :)

Awesome figure. Begs the question why didn't they do this for the voyager Prime mold first time around but I guess we should be glad we've got it now.

    *waits for the Buster version*

He looks great. Spot on bot mode with very little kibble. The vehicle mode is excellent, even though its rather small. Will be picking him up for sure.

You forgot to show off the matrix though. ;)

And as far as the rear fender kibble getting in the way, you've got it mistransformed slightly. It's supposed to clip on top of the gas tanks, similar to how it is on the Leader version.

    Great pics and review.
I like almost everything about this one but surely there will be a repaint that I like better.

If they do a compelling enough repaint on him down the road I might pick him up. I'm going to wait to see what they do with the Movie 3 Leader Prime first.

why is it so hard for them to place to proper flame on him... why??? I don't understand this. I mean, it's not like they don't have the reference material for it.. Cmon hasbro.. youuu can do it.. I know ya can. Takomy did it for the Buster Leader Prime.. I'm going to be waiting to see what takomy does with this mold first, and this may end up being the first Japanese Movie figure I buy.

Because the more complex those paint apps get, the more expensive it becomes, and they're on a pretty tight budget structure.

Their target audience isn't super-picky, detail-oriented fans, anyways, but kids that probably don't scrutinize to the umpteenth degree, so they just try to get as close as they possibly can while staying within constraints.

    This looks great.

I know there's a Takara version coming soon. Is there any differences?

Battle hooks and most likely deco. At Botcon Hasbro announced a forthcoming repaint of their own with different head and battle hooks too.

I imagine it will be Hasbro's voyager version of Buster Prime sans a lot of silver paint unless we are lucky.

Amazing toy, just got mine in. Everything locks in place, great detail for such a small fig. Engineering is incredible.

But does anyone know what the pegs on the blue panels/sides/back are for? I cant figure it out.
